Researching possible causes before I take my car in. Started noticing a oil smell here and there. i don;t really drive the car, 12k in almost 2.5 years. No leaks on the ground. I don;t plan on keeping the car past the warranty running out, likely sell or trade the car by the summer.

It's the oil pan gasket and covered under warranty!

Most any of these will have some seapage if the owners put them on a lift and look, and its not just GM, its most cars & light trucks. When they start to leave a puddle, then it is an issue for sure.

Well changed my oil yesterday, guess what I found... an oil leak in the same place. You think Chevrolet will have a bulletin on this anytime soon. Darn it, now I have to take it into my local dealership. I hope the dealership doesnt find issue with my catch can or cold air intake (weird if they do). The RX Catch Can works nice, just hope the dealership doesnt think it would cause this. UGH!!! Well guess its a good thing since I havent lowered it yet.

Add one more to the oil leak crowd! Sounds like there should be a recall on this! Dropped it off this morning, going to be a multiple day job......snow storm coming tonight, so I have to leave it at the dealer for an extra day because camaros don't do 7-10 inches of snow....and they cant let me keep the rental car that long so I have to go without and screw around with rides! Then they tell me if its done tomorrow night they're going to push it out in the lot to get covered in snow.......

It seems alot of V6 owners are having trouble with the timing cover leaking, you would think they would make an actual gasket for the cover instead of RTV, every engine Ive seen with an RTV gasket "seeped" oil maybe not to the point where it will leave a puddle on the ground but maybe some oil residue around the RTV gasket itself.

yep that's seems to be the trend here......that sucks! i was just talking to the director of quality for GM 2 weeks ago at a quality conference in San Diego and he was all proud of the JD powers awards......I told him to take a look at the thread here about it and that i was none too happy about the front seal leaking on mine!

Very common on the V8's as well.

RTV is not the best to use...Permatex Right Stuff is what we trust.

Hi, so I have a 2012 v6 LFX with only 36000 miles and mine seems to have this leak, I dropped my car at the dealer and they put dye in the oil, and I need to drive it for 100 miles and bring it back, it seems like there are a lot of reports of this leak, my question is with so many people with this leak that's under the alternator, should this be taken care of on the house by the chevrolet?
