M6 / A6
Today I test drove the M6 and loved the feel, clutch is extremely firm but suspect over some mileage it will break in a little, but it could be I am used to my A6 on my SS. Hopefully soon I can drive the A6 or do I need to, does it shift exactly the same as my SS A6 (2011) ? I ask because I can't the slight delay when tap shifting, it's enough that it does not feel like a true tap shift that is refined. Thank you
By the way yes I am looking to hopefully to the jump up soon if everything works out on the deal. |

What are you going to be doing with the car drag racing/ road course or just fun cruising. Or all the above. If your hard core drag race I say A6 if your road course and cruising then M6. Of course IMO

Road, twist and cruising = m6. Used to be an automatic guy. Had 3 camaros with a4. Had a hard time adjusting to the m6 but now I have no regrets. It might be slower but the fun factor is way off the charts. I used to get bored in the a4s. The m6 however makes you strive for perfection. It's rewarding to get the perfect shift, down shift, rev match, toe to heel, etc. plus the car sounds better (exhaust).

Does the A6 have that delay like the SS does or am I the only one who feels it?

If your getting tired of knuckledragging jackassery from the M6 mafia, here is some info that you actually asked for. The 6L90E is supposed to be much faster in gear changes in the ZL1 (as per the videos chevy put out at the zl1 launch) however they still are a bit laggy when using the tap shift. My 2010 SS was an M6 so I can't give you a comparison to the L99, but it's not a super fast gear change like a DCT is. In my honest opinion the tap shift is fun to play with, the rev matching is pretty sweet, and I would use it on an autocross or roadcourse. If you take it to the drag strip, just put the sucker in M mode and let it shift. Much better than the paddles. It comes down to what you want out of it. M6 is entertaining with gear shifts and can give a sense of satisfaction from the mastery of powershifting. It becomes alot less entertaining when your stuck in stop and go traffic. When adding power there becomes more of a learning curve of what clutch will work or gives you the street manners you want, and the clutch cylinder is no work of art and can be problematic (clutch pedal sticking to floor under power is a great example). The auto is bulletproof and loves power, no muss no fuss. Some people have to define their manhood by having three pedals in the car and have to impose that mindset on anyone that will listen. The 60's rocked! Cruising around in your big block Camaro with a 4 speed made you king of the neighborhood, but it's 2014 and cars have changed. Some people cant let it go. Which is funny because you hear the same tired shit about the auto means the car is driving you and the M6 means you are master of the machine that bends to your will, however these guys that are the "drivers" still rely on a car that has more driving technology built into it than you can imagine with 5 modes of traction management, traction control, two modes of suspension damping, and magnectic ride control just to name a few. Should that be removed to truely be in control of the car and not the otherw ay around? But no an auto means car is in control, manual means you are master of the vehicle. I digress. So do some soul searching and make sure youre not "that guy" or the auto will be a huge dissappointment to you and will surely lead to buyers remorse. They are both good in their own way, but it's personal preferance and what style driving you do the most.

Thank you Camm99. I have the A6 in my SS, and in sport mode it's good, but when I tap shift the slight pause between when I hit the tap to the tranny actually changing gears bugs the sheet out of me. The traffic thing is exactly why I went with the A6 in the SS. I am not sold on M6 being the best or A6, I just have more options here with A6 than M6 but I can't stand the lag my A6 tap produces and I haven't had the chance to test drive the ZL1 with the A6 yet.

Real muscle cars have 3 pedals. Get the A6 so your wife can drive it too. How sweet.

I have not driven a torque coverter automatic yet that does not have delay at the tap shift.
They are getting better for sure. Just go drive it. this topic gets everbody panties in a wad. It is hard to get good data it just evolves into a pissing contest.
