was wondering what kind of power level the tr 6060 can handle. GM webpage says its rated for 421 ft.lb.torque, but i am well past that and knock on wood still holding up. any input is welcomed and appreciated.

I'm pretty sure the I heard the new Viper VOODOO uses the TR6060. I think it was on the Motorweek show

LS3 is at 426 TQ at the crank I believe... so I know its not that low. Isn't the TR6060 what is in the 5th Gen ZL1.

The article says 600 ft lbs of tq... So hp could be ~600-700. Just estimating

You will hear different numbers from different sources. I made 824 on mine and there are numbers that are much higher than that.

I believe the weak point of the transmission is merely the clutch it has from the factory. I heard it starts to give at 600. I'm at 535 right now and I changed my clutch out for a McLeod RXT Twin Disc Clutch (that also came with a billett steel flywheel) that is capable of holding 1000 horsepower. Something to note going forward will be your comfort driving it. The RXT clutch is lighter than the factory clutch belive it or not, both on the pedal and physically speaking too if your looking to drop weight. Some clutches can be heavy and require a lot of effort to press in, personally I hate that, especially since I'm on the street 99% of the time. I'm going to get supercharged soon, so I'll let you know how the TR6060 holds up. Should be perfectly fine, my reccomendation is to just use really good transmission fluid going forward. Transmission likes it and makes it run smoother. I opted for Royal Purple when I swapped in the clutch kit, but when I get boosted I plan to change it again to something much thicker in viscosity meant for racing. Your next concern should be the rear end and rear axles. My rear is still totally stock, and I've had no issues yet, and I run 315mm tires. I've been to the track several times as well, and my rear has held up quite well. Dont want to push it though. When I get boosted I'm not going near a track until my rear end has been upgraded throughly. I'd say the transmission is definitely a much more stout piece verses the rear. Trans wise the TR6060 will easily make due with nothing more than a better clutch. That rear end will start to fail if you launch hard with more power than it has business handling, so essentially, no street slicks and the rear will get you to 500 no problem. Anything past 600 on summer tires is probably where launching it will break things. Good luck moving forward

I'm at 700+ crank and the transmission (so far) is holding up well - I have had probs with the clutch pedal not fully releasing on a very hard launch so I upgraded the clutch line and spring. I can sometimes smell my clutch (though I'm putting this down to me launching and slipping the plate a little to protect my currently stock axles - when I can afford it I'll get some of those nice shiny G-Force ones)

A lot depends on how you drive it. Smooth clutching with rev matching is completely different than drag strip launches.
I'm at 610rwhp and had the trans rebuilt and upgraded. They found a hairline crack on 2nd gear when they opened it up during teardown. |
