Codes P2188 and P2190/P0303 and 300
Recently started getting codes. P0300 and P0303. I know they are misfire codes. But why all of a sudden? I cleared them, and they came back a few days later. Could it be from a plenum spacer? Thats the only thing different in the last few weeks. I know there was a thread on here, but it had no answers. Is there anything I can do in the driveway to figure it out?

Could be one of a few things. Bad gas, fix by next tanks of gas. Valves coked up, fixed by seafoam treatment and installing a oil catch can. Ignition coil/spark plug gone bad, swap cylinder 3 coil and plug with one on opposite side of engine. If now code comes back for the swapped cylinder replace plug then replace coil if code get thrown again.

If you installed a spacer maybe a vacuum leak

I just recently had A misfire and pulled P0302. For me it was a shorted spark plug.

Ok. heres the update. Code came back. So,a while back I won a gift certificate for rock auto. I bought new plugs,BEFORE,I knew they lasted forever. So I decided to change them. They all looked good except one. The middle one on the passenger side. That one was covered in oil! WTF??? Could it be the coil pack? I cleared the codes after the spark plug swap. But something tells me it will be back.
So I went to Rock Auto again, which one should I order? http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php?ck[ID]=0&ck[idlist]=0&ck[viewcurrency]=USD&ck[PHP_SESSION_ID]=ufnpf6292294b6a9hdak5pftj6 I'm thinking the AC Delco? Is that all I'll need? I also switched coils, took the suspected bad one and moved it to a different cylinder. If its a bad coil pack, which one should I get? Since the link doesn't work, here is a screenshot Last edited by 2011 RJT; 05-13-2014 at 06:39 AM. |

Don't waste your money on a coil pack. You need to find out why so much oil is getting into the cylinder and coating the plug and causing your misfire.

If the code is still a P0303 after you changed the plugs and coil then you've got something else going on.
I would assume you swapped the plug wire out with the coil you swapped at the same time? If so then swapping coil, plug wire, and replacing the plug itself did not fix your issue You could have something mechanical causing your issue. I don't really have a good explanation for what is causing it mechanically that's not making a sound. But I am sure others could chime in on what any mechanical causes are. I have seen before where a bad injector driver in a PCM causes random misfire in a certain cylinder. the person who this happened to did nothing different than you did in your trouble shooting other than swapping injectors with another cylinder, you may want to try that. so if its not a, plug, wire, coil, or injector and nothing mechanical is causing it...id start with a compression test by the way...then i would start thinking PCM related. If you have a different cylinder misfire then obviously your problem is in your swapped components. Hope this helps man keep us posted.

Codes P0300 and P0303
Replace that plug first. I have seen shorted plugs and they have looked soaked when pulled. Also check the codes to make sure it hasn't moved.
Go with the delco parts they really are good for oem.

those codes can be related to the fouled plug. have you pulled the plug to see how it looks now compared to a few days ago when you changed it? And have you swapped any of the hardware to eliminate other issues? or have you just replaced the plugs?

Like I said above, I switched the coil pack from the bad cylinder to a good one(not throwing codes) and vice versa. Haven't checked the plug yet. I won't be able to do that till later on this afternoon.
