It's a software driven LCD right? Surely someone has the smarts to tap into the code (like many a registry edit/HTML code/ECM/PCM flash) and make it do what they want...just a matter of time no?

Or for that matter, until an aftermarket, fully customizable replacement DIC comes along.

I asked the same questions a while back in the audio whatever group. I got this reply from someone. Basically it is possible for for anyone other than GM it would be really really difficult. But man would it be nice!!!

"All of the data is on the vehicle bus, so it is there, but in each module, there are settings for what module listens to what particular vehicle message and if the module isn't on the list for a message, it ignores it. So, I think the DIC since it isn't displaying the temperature, isn't looking for that particular message, so it would be fairly difficult to hack into the lower-level code and make that change in the DIC.

The software is definitely updatable, but generally only by using the TechTool. It has to get the modules into a special programming state so they're ready to receive the new data. I also have no idea in what language or what program those engineers wrote the DIC or radio code in.

As for the locks, that's controlled by the body control module I believe. That's probably an easier change to make, but may be a bit difficult to do without the source code."

I'd be happy with being able to customize a screen with info the DIC is already 'listening' to. The rest would be nice someday if possible though.

I've never seen a vehicle tell you how many miles you have left after the low fuel indicator came on. Just never drop below a 1/4 tank and you won't have that problem. It's bad for ur fuel pump anyhow
Both of my GTO's showed how many miles you had left once the low level fuel came on. If I remember correctly it always came on when I had 2 gallons left in the tank. would always say 39 miles left. Which is pretty accurate seeing how I averaged 18.5 mpg in both of them when I was doing my normal day to day driving. I have only see my low level come on once in my camaro and was a little disappointed when it didn't say how many miles left until empty.

Instant MPGs it's been on every car I've had or rented for at least a decade. Actually all cars I've owned have had it.
