XM renewals

Anyone else had luck recently trying to renew their XM subscription at a sane price?

I have been on the phone twice and online chat and no one has been willing to offer me any deals over the ridiculous $200/yr despite being a subscriber for over a year.

In addition, they are routing the calls to call centers which is another source of annoyance as much of the conversation revolves repeating myself or asking them to repeat themselves.

Any tips on how to talk to someone stateside for a cheap renewal?

Thanks,
TF

My only suggestion is plug in your iPod. I barely listen to radio, AM, FM or satellite. XM is far from what it started out promising to be. It's nothing more than glorified FM to me. I've got three more months of "free" XM, then I'm done!

Just let it expire, then you will get blasted with $4-9 per month for 6-9 month deals. That is the only way it is worth it.

I'd go with Pandora if you have a smart phone. Much nicer. Lots of songs and you can tell it if you dislike a song and it wont play it. Much more customization than XM or Sirius plus its free for the basic.

XM's customer service is beyond horrible. Like others have said, just let it expire, you'll start getting offers in the mail soon. In my experience, unless they have special offers linked to your radio ID # in their "system", they wont offer you any deals.

It depends on your area. There are "dead-spots" just like a cell phone.

That is why I said it is only worth renewal if you can get it cheap. Between bad reception (power lines, trees, fast driving, etc.), commercials every other song, and playing the same 15 songs over and over it gets annoying at times.

i have renewed my xm 2 times.when they send me the bill for some ridiculous price i just call them and tell them to cancel my service.they will then give you a number you can live with.you should get it for around $70.00 a year.do not give them a credit card number.have them bill you and send a check.i have never had any problems with them.

DM,
Great advice. I have Pandora on my iPhone. Anything special about how to hook it up to the car stereo? haven't tried it yet, but sure sounds like a better idea than XM. I just got the XM renewal notice. $318 for two cars for two years.

I get that, but on my 7 mile drive to work, it cuts out about 3-5 times usually.. no buildings around and a fairly open road, but it is lined with some trees. I'm pretty sure it's the trees blocking the signal.

I certainly have no intention of paying for the xm service when my year free expires, unless the signal is more reliable.
