The 3.0L 6 cylinder is showing to be an inline 6 and not a V6 on the forcasted engine chart but it also shows a 4.3L V6 with 36 valves, both on this new engine series CSS by GM. The 3.0L 6 is thought to be the new Silverado Diesel designed with help from Europe but destined to built in the states.

Haven't seen anyone here talk about it, but a few online magazines are discussing rumors that the next gen mid engine Corvette could come with a range topping 850 HP. That should be just enough!

http://www.motortrend.com/news/repor...t-make-850-hp/

Quote:
Unfortunately, the link to the original report is no longer available, but based on what those who read it say, the C8 will get as many as three engine options. The Corvette’s current 6.2-liter V-8 is listed but is more likely destined for the front-engine C7, which is believed to continue production for a few more years. The most interesting tidbit from the document is that 4.2-liter and 5.5-liter V-8 options are also expected—presumably for the upcoming mid-engine variant. IHS’ production estimates suggest the 6.2-liter V-8 will be the most popular option, which would make sense if the C7 carries on as the “volume” model, followed by the 4.2-liter and finally the 5.5-liter. Corvette Forum also believes the smaller V-8s will likely be twin-turbocharged and of a dual overhead cam design. n terms of horsepower, the 5.5-liter will reportedly make a maximum of 850 hp, with the 4.2-liter cranking out something closer to 650 hp.

Talked about it a bit on the previous page. I'm not sure how entirely accurate that document is, but we'll see.

Those would be some really tiny valves.

Neither have I. I've heard of some 5 valve designs, I think one was for a race bike engine so definitely not a 6 cylinder. Nothing with 6 valves per, as far as I know.

They'd be small valves for sure, but should still be at least as big as whats used on the littlest of the 4 bangers.

I would be genuinely surprised to see an engine of any size using that many valves per cylinder. Honestly it doesn't make any sense at all to go to the effort of designing a working system with that many valves. There can't be a power or efficiency gain worth that much hassle.

Yamaha started using them in the 80's in their Genesis engines, the FZ models. The FZ700 here in the US was a killer bike!

So on the topic of 6 valves per cylinder I found this online:

http://www.maserati-alfieri.co.uk/alfieri26.htm

Pretty good read and its a neat design.

Honda had several 8V per cylinder motorcycle engines as well, some were even street bikes...
