Cheap glass, cheap plastic, cheap paint, but what do expect nowadays. $900 last time I had it replaced in 2011. Now its not a DD so hope it wont happen anytime soon. Meanwhile my 2002 Trailblazer has about 4 rock chips but never cracked, had safelite fix it for 20 bux.

got a quote today from Apple auto Glass. Thay do the glass for all the dealers in the area. $475 installed. thay want 1 day lead time to get the glass. I don't bother with glass insurence, because it costs $180 a year and $300 deductable. I don't have HUD or remote start so my glass is the lowest price.

I have a zero deductible on my auto glass as an add-on to my comprehensive coverage. I think it costs a couple of dollars additional a month. When I had the near-vertical windshield Scion xB, I went through almost one windshield per year.

If you're in the U.S., ask your agent about this coverage if you don't have it.

Your adjuster is full of BS about a dollar bill covering it. In Minnesota, if it is in the line of vision, it has to be replaced by the law. I had mine for 3 months and a rock hit it dead center. Went to ABRA, they ran my VIN and I had it 3 days later. Original OEM. From what they told me there are 4 different windshields for the Camaro. Convertible HUD and non HUD, Coupe HUD and non HUD. Make sure you get the correct one.

Kinda OT but cool story... When I was in the USAF about 30 years ago I was driving a 15 passenger government van down a highway with 1 passenger. The kid unbuckled from the passenger seat and climbed into one of the benches in the back to take a nap.

No sooner had he laid down when the truck in front of me cut loose an 8' length of 2x4 from its load. This piece of wood literally rocketed through the windshield of the van, piercing the back of the front passenger seat.

After that day I don't think that kid ever missed a Sunday church service for as long as I knew him.

I just replaced mine in my SS and i have glass insurance on my progressive plan and i didn't have to pay a penny. I went through Safelite and they did an awesome job, came and fixed it at my house and everything. Not a bad deal for a window that costs $717 without insurance!

I don't know why the Camaro would be more prone to this than other cars, but it sure seems to be. I only had to replace a windshield one time in 20 plus years of driving before I bought my first Camaro. My 2012 went through 2 windshields in under 20,000 miles and I had to have the windshield replaced on my 2014 with just a few thousand miles on the clock. As others have said make sure you get the right windshield for the options you have and make sure to specify OEM glass. The aftermarket windshields are definitely not the same quality. I didn't ask for OEM one time and aftermarket windshield had quite a bit of distortion in it. I had Safelite do my last couple replacements and I was happy with the work.

By "USAA" I would assume your insurance company? Insurance should pay for the repairs that are needed to restore the vehicle to the factory equipment, minus any deductable. It would be up to the place that is doing the repair/replacement to determine what is put in. You should make sure it is the correct windshield for your model, as they are different.

Happened to me too, wasn't my fault at all. Unfortunately, USAA insurance only covered the repair after the deductible. Just my luck, my deductible was $500, the HUD windshield was $808 with labor...insurance covered $308 lol.

I see this is an old thread. Didn't read every post...My one experience with this was more with the REMOTE START device - which is attached to the windshield. The glass people need to know if it has that or not!
