That's about where I am. I'm always in the left lane! I don't try to conserve fuel, I just drive it. It does get better mileage than my 07 CTS. Never understood why the 3.6 in the CTS, never did better on fuel.

When I first got my SS I got 22 MPG on a 330 mile trip using the cruise control as much as possable @ 70-75 MPH. Now with 2500 miles I got 23.9 MPG on another interstate trip. My 6 cyl Chevy Impala gets an easy 29-30 MPG under the same conditions. Don't buy an Camaro SS for the MPG.

Keep in mind if you are buying the LS3, will you still be able to afford driving the car if gas goes to and maybe over $4/gallon. That time will be here before you know it! If your "banking" on $3/gallon and average 26 to 28 mpg's, your wishing for a best case scenario. You had better make assumptions based on an average of 20mpg and $4/ gallon. That way if your driving habits turn out better results, you could use the money to pay off your Camaro early.

I don't know how these other people are getting 20+ mpg, I have tried driving differently on different gas ups and still can only get 16-18(if I'm lucky) and no I don't hod rod all the time

I get ~17-18 around town, normal driving. Doesn't seem to matter much whether I drive normal or baby it..17-18.
On long trips 22-23 running about 75. If you want the best fuel economy on the highway keep it 55-60..wind resistance is a drag lol.. As said earlier...sitting at lights will kill the avg. mileage...idling=wasted fuel.

Well I have 1400 miles on my LS3 and its about 80% city fun runs (not my DD) and the DIC says 14.3 MPG. I've not re-set it so its the whole 1400 miles. I guess compared to others I'm having more fun!

get the V8
my v6 only get 19MPG, i am sure i would get the same from a V8 since i drive spirited with the v6 but dont think i would have to drive as hard with the v8 to have the same amount of fun. |

Nothing is True
|
10.1 mpg average here....and mostly in the city.
If I'm on the interstate, I can usually get it to about 16. If I pretend I'm afraid of pressing the gas peddle, I can purposefully hit about 24mpg. On the other hand, I'm getting much better mileage than I did on my 4th gen 6 cyl that I traded off. That car had problems lol

Sounds like you should consider the V6.
27-31 MPG consistently (all highway). 19-22 MPG City Depending on the gas I use.

I only have about 300 miles on my 2SS Manual.
My drive is about 15 miles each way of country road, with stopsigns/lights about every couple of miles. That being said, I am also trying to not Lug my engine during break in and am driving very spirited. Getting about 15 MPG. However, I can easily see getting 20+ MPG if I had significant Highway time on my commute. Seems like the car gets mid 20's while on the freeway, so if you drive 90% Freeway, I can easily see getting 20 MPG+. BTW: My previous car was an RX8 that I drove the same route on. I averaged about 16 MPG in it also. Car barely warmed up by the time I got to work. Plus, the Maro is much quicker and fun for the same MPG. Sidequestion: Anyone notice that their Camaro warms up VERY quickly? As compared to my RX8, it is warm (at least the coolant and thus the heater) within a few minutes of starting. Is this due to the aluminium block? |
