18" Heritage Rims on Gen 5 Camaro SS/RS!

18" Heritage Rims on Gen 5 SS/RS....

Yes, you can mount 18” Heritage Wheels on your 5th Gen Camaro SS!
Here is how I did it:

Photo of the front disk and studs before mods:

I use a 10,000 rpm cutoff saw… ( much fun! )

Cut off ¼” of the non threaded tip of the Wheel Stud:

The results look like this:

On the front wheels only: cut off the 2 outer 'skate wheels' ONLY:

The inner 'skate wheels' are ok and can be left on.

After cutting all 5 studs, mount wheel spacer and torque to 100 to 200 ft lbs.
NOTE: car studs must be flush with wheel spacer or they will push on wheel!

The spacers are from: www.autopartswarehouse.com

Part #: E27904300442 ( 30mm spacers )
Eibach Wheel Spacer Wheel Spacer Camaro|SS
Qty: 4.00 Price: $ 250 ( about +- tax and S&H )

There are HIGH quality German engineered wheel spacers with hubs.

Mount Wheel and torque to 100 to 120 ft lbs:

Install the center plastic hub cover: (twist carefully until you hear a click)

Install the outer Silver beauty Ring:

Do the same for the other front wheel.

The rears don’t have ‘skate wheels’ on the Brembo brakes so
Nothing to cut but the studs.

The rear wheel:

I purchased the tires at: www.tirebuyer.com

Brigstone – Blizzak WS70 - Size: 225/60R18 - 4 ea @ $160.00 + Tax

These tires mounted are very, very close to the outside dimensions of the 20” with Factory pzero’s on so the odometer and speedodometer will be the same.

I put new Tire Pressure Monitoring Valves in the new wheels and they will have to be ‘re-calibrated’ to show up in the cars electronics.

www.Rockauto.com

Dorman - 974009 – Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) $ 35.79 ea.

The Wheels look really great ( for a winter set! )

The car rides softer, but the side to side ‘sway’ is noticeable and it doesn’t feel as ‘planted’ in the corners… but what the heck… it’s a Winter setup and looks great!

Happy cruzin!

But my question is now that you cut the studs will you be able to mount the stock 20's back on in the spring?

I know that it is only the non threaded part, but it just seems as it was like that for a reason

He is running a 30mm adapter. If the studs stick out too far then the wheel will not be able to sit flush on the adapter face.

I'm planning on mounting 18" heritage wheels on my 1 LT RS for the winter. Can this be done without cutting anything and adding spacers?

Should fit I'm pretty sure. Only reason they don't fit on the V8 Camaros is because of the Brembo brakes.

They fit without modification on all v6 models. (Unless you added the brembos)

I installed LS wheels on my dads 45th anniversary 2012 2LT.

Maybe I'll go this route. That looks good. I was planning on getting the steel wheels and painting them silver or a titanium color.

Dumb question, but I live in AZ where we don't have a winter. What does changing the wheels help with during the winter?

Interesting approach to dealing with winter tires/wheels.

I'd probably just have saved up a couple hundred more and bought a second set of 20" RS wheels instead of cutting up the studs and roller skates, then put winter tires on those. But whatever works for you...

by going with the "heritage" wheel you can get a better selection of winter tires because it is an 18" wheel instead of the SS 20" wheel.
