Maybe it was a counterfeit Chinese-made version that snuck through customs?

By the way Scott has been chiming into these types of threads lately, I would bet money that we will all know when they start shipping to dealers.

I got this from my dealer this morning...
Date: 03/02/2012 Ref. number: Sales / New Vehicles / G_0000109294 Subject: Update on 2012 Camaro ZL1 Shipments and DOSP The purpose of this note is to provide you with an update on 2012 Camaro ZL1 production and vehicle shipment plans. All Camaro ZL1 models produced to date are currently being held by General Motors for a quality assessment. At this moment, the duration of the hold is undetermined, and may last a few more weeks. As soon as the hold is cleared, a note will be sent to all dealers to advise that 2012 Camaro ZL1 shipments are underway. Because of the hold, the upcoming Dealer Order Submission Process (DOSP) cycle that was to be dedicated to ZL1 is being postponed. This DOSP cycle was scheduled to start this Thursday, March 1, 2012, and continues through Tuesday, March 6, 2012. A new date for this DOSP cycle will be provided in the near future. We regret to have to undertake these actions, especially given the high anticipation for the new Camaro ZL1. We ask for your patience and will continue to keep you posted on any developments regarding production and vehicle shipments from Oshawa. Sincerely, Russell M. Clark Director – Chevrolet Small Cars, Small Utilities and Performance Cars Marketing |

my prediction is this:
You will soon hear of dealers calling customers to pay for theyre ordered zl1's NOW thatthey will not even ship for weeks...... I would not submit payment on a vehicle that is not delivered. But, I know there will be many that will. |

*consults his magic8ball...
Magic8ball, what's the scOOp? If I read between the lines, I would guess that an 'issue(s)' cropped up on one or more CTF ZL1s, hence the postponed DOSP cycle. Attending to 400+ Camaros to correct the problem will be time consuming. Surely by now, the combined total of CTF miles is about to hit Chevy's predetermined goal. However, the "fix" will have to undergo QC testing as well!" Thanks magic8ball, you're the best! ...just idle speculation; nothing to see here... move along! |

To test production, you have to start production. You can't simulate everything.

The prototype ZL1s have been around for awhile. I'd guess that Chevy thought, in theory, that they were good to go, but to be sure, they ran the CTF cars to look for anomalies as SOP. Perhaps, a vendor supplied part failed or an assembly issue had to be reconfigured. Don't get me wrong... Chevy cannot risk losing face at this point. I'm sure they want ZL1 owners to thoroughly enjoy the fruits of their labors... NO EXCUSES! You can imagine the flack that they would get on the forums if something were amiss, especially if discovered after delivery to the end-user. Al Oppenheiser & his team are proud of their accomplishments & rightly so. Naturally, the more time goes by, the more restless the natives are going to get! Crucifixion hasn't gone out of style on the internet!
