Will STS turbo work well with automatic tranny?
I have an auto tranny and am not sure how well the combination of the turbo and auto will work.
What do you guys think? |

The r&d for the sts was on an auto I believe.
Edit: meaning it'll work with both transmissions

Dynos I've seen have put it at anywhere between 350-380 rwhp. Jim said his torque was 423.

Turbos are usually a touch more efficient on auto's anyway, as you don't loose the boost pressure when the transmission shifts.

Plus you can stall a turbo car up against the converter to make boost.
Although watch the trans temps when you do it. |

Can stall the car up to about 2000 rpm... not sure where the STS starts making boost... Of course getting a converter loosened up a bit is usually not to terrible expensive... However with an open differential launching under boost (and staying hooked up!) might be a bit tougher..

With stock tires you are going to have a hard time hooking up stalling above 2000 RPM (boost or not). At 1500 RPM mine loves to spin on the stock tires :(

I find i get my best 60' foots flashing the converter off of idle... of course if you are spending $$$$ for a turbo can probably afford to get ride of the stock tires! LOL! I actually have 13,000 miles on my Nitto NT555R drag radials... granted they haven't seen a lot of passes at the track but still 13,000 miles and counting is still pretty dang good... And I drive in the rain! LOL!

Pirelli PZero 245/50/ZR19. I seem to get a little better launch at 1000 RPM then idle, but it has been so hot I'm not sure if that will remain to be the case.
I'm sure glad we are out of the 100's and into the 80's
