CONGRATS on your ride and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5/6. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wives', husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Hey guys, new member here from the St Louis area. Ive been a camaro lover ever since I first started driving. My first car was a white 1984 berlinetta with a carbed 305. Took me 2 months of walking to work at mc donalds to save up for it, but man was it worth it, and I was the coolest kid in school when I pulled up in her!! Ive had several camaros since then, 1991 z28, 78 z28, 1993 z28, and finally my current car, 2002 z28.
I really love my ls1 4th gen but, I am really considering trading up to a 6th gen though. (the 6th gen will be the very first "new" camaro ive ever owned)
I came here and joined to hopefully get some insight, and ask a few questions before making the plundge. Keep in mind, this will be a 80mile a day daily driver for me, all weather except snow.
How big of a change will it be going from 4th to 6th gen? Driving characteristics similar? How does the 8l90 feel and shift compared to the 4l60?
My 4th gen has some weak points, rear end, and the 4l60. Both of wich ive had problems with. How does the 6th gen stack up in these two departments?(rear end strength, and 8 speed auto)
I love the power my ls1 makes. Ive done headers, full exhaust, 342 gears, and a tune only. Will the lt1 6th gen feel as powerful in stock form? Ive seen the numbers, and they are amazing, but how does it feel?
Ive got some more direct questions, but I will direct those to the appropriate departments.
Any other thoughts or insights into your personal experience would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks for reading, and possibly pushing me over the edge, or completely changing my mind all together.
I owned 3 - 4th Gens, including two LS1 machines, the last being a 2000 SLP Firehawk #509. All of mine were 6 speeds as is my current Camaro, so I cannot comment on the automatic performance. What I can state is that the 4th Gens were brutal machines. Their live rear axles made them a handful to drive. Even extensive work (factory Bilstien performance suspension on the Firehawk) could not change the basic nature of the car.

The 6th Gen is a different animal. This is a world class performance coupe' that can hold its own with the best the world has to offer. Comfort, luxury and technology are worlds apart. Change the settings and the magnetic ride transforms the grand tourer into a track beast. The NPP barks and growls with authority, as well. The LS1 was a transformative engine. It offered blazing performance in its day. The new LT1 is a generational advance and must be experienced to be comprehended.
