Cost to buy my car in Australia

So I will be moving to Australia for a few years to fly for Quantas. The pay is great but I'm beginning to see that it won't be as great as I originally thought. I was looking at apartments and cars etc. and of course I had to look at the chevy dealership Used price on my identical Silverado... $145,500. My beloved Camaro (New)... $135,000. I thought I loved my Chevy's; but not that much. And drum role my Z06... $298,000. I don't like them THAT much. Luckily I'm moving Down Under for the experience being young and unattached. Just another reason to love the Good 'Ol USA. God Bless America.

The reason for these prices is because its been shown that Australia has one of the richest populations with a very very high average of income. Also that its in the middle of nowhere. When you want stuff in the middle of nowhere you have to pay!

PS - have a good time! And remember everything there is poisonous!!! :P

It would appear Americans are richer than Australians.

Good luck down there. My mum is Australian, and I have a few family members that live in Brisbane QLD. Australia is expensive!

The real reason for the prices is that by law, they have to be converted to right hand drive. That makes them extremely scarce.

Probably cheaper to buy one here and just ship it by boat to Australia.

Wasn't aware of that. I guess shipping from here is pretty pointless then.

You could buy a motorcycle here and ship it though!

I was in Melbourne in 2007 while my wife was working there. We stopped by the local Harley dealer. Seems the bikes were double the US price back then. Other things like clothes and food were more, probably inline with a big city comparing it to Chicago. Imported vehicles must take a big hit.

I read that you would not be able to register it in Oz until it was converted to RHD. I also read that all incoming international mail is opened in Oz, so good luck shipping certain items there, like violent video games.
