Automatic Tranny Problem

so on friday night my transmission started acting real weird...out of nowhere it started shifting real bad almost not wanting to shift at all....but whats weird is that the 1st-2nd shift and the 2nd-3rd shift just fine...but from 3rd-4th, 4th-5th, and 5th-6th...it acts like it hits a false nuetral and just revs way up before even attempting to grab the gear.....it does this no matter what driving mode im in or if i shift it with the tapshift.....what could be goin on?

sometimes when it hits that false nuetral you can hear something whining/grinding?

yea...thats what i was thinking....i suppose i should also mention that it only has 18k miles on it and the car has a custom engine and trans tune

I would have your tuner look at it first. Your shift points may be off.

For sure, dealer is not going to cover it under warranty with a tune and such so better have the tuner look first.

well....just drove it to go get some food.....and i no longer have 4th, 5th, or 6th gear...and my check engine light came on....so looks like its off to the dealer i go tomorrow

Here's something I read over in a Vette forum about the 6L80E tranmission.

"The intermediate shaft will break, or twist over time. Once it fails, it will leave you with 1/2/3 gears only. 4/5/6 will no longer work because that shaft has failed".

Sounds like your problem?

well shoot i hope not....i hooked up my OBD11 reader and it threw 2 codes....both coming back to the transmission control module...so i dunno

well got the news today that the tranny is shot....now i need to decide what im gonna do...i can either take it to the dealer completely turned back to stock...
OR
I can sack up and build a beefed up tranny, do the heads and cam mods i want and throw a stall converter in there....
i hate decisions

What was the problem? Did they explain what part of the tranmission failed?

no...we havent takin the tranny out yet...we just went back over the whole tune and took it out to see if any of that was the problem, but as it turns out it wasnt the tune...im thinkin your right on point with that intermediate shaft breaking because what you described is exactly whats happened.....should know more here in a couple days.....nothing gets done fast around the holidays
