LS7/Z28 would likely dominate in handling, ZL1 in straightline acceleration. 45HP is significant between hypothetical LS7 and ZL1, but IF the Z/28 shed 300-450# the performance would be close, if not equal.
The Z probably won't pass the guzzler tax, so why not up the rear gear to 3.73 or higher? Just in case, I have not modded my car at all and have limited my mileage. I was going to spend $20k on a Maggie, Pedders, better wheels and tires, brakes, headers, exhaust, CAI...etc. or transplant an LS7 with all other mods for $25k..Until I realized for this money, I can hold onto that if the Z comes out...and have a car that I really can dig! What makes more financial sense? To each his own. If the Z is produced...and I don't like it...or the wheels, or the powertrain, I'll get my LS7 or Maggie transplant.
