You know, the engine is tuned for the back pressure, and it might mess with engine performance if the leak is too big and too close to the engine. I honestly don't think it would have an impact, though; it's probably leaking a very small amount, and it just accumulated in time.

Mod budget is just that, a budget. Like everything else, unexpected things come up, and budgets often get blown. I am currently having the same issue with both my project cars; the Miata supercharger project turned into an ultimate Miata cooling system project. The 1LE's Z/28 wheels/suspension project turned into full Z/28 aero project (or else the sticky tires would destroy my paint). Oh well..

This is true, I'll get them eventually.

Upon further investigation I've come to discover that the drivers side manifold doesn't have a gasket, hence the exhaust leak.

Went with a Monster LT1-S twin disc with the light weight flywheel. Still looking into all the parts that failed but the slave is thrashed.

Wow, am I surprised by that one! The only thing I have ever seen, that was designed worse than GM's slave, was the NYLON pilot shaft bearing/thrust washer on my 2002 Lotus Esprit V8TT....

Been busy with work but finally finished replacing the clutch. The old throw out bearing completely fell apart and sent pieces of itself into the clutch, wedging itself into the diaphragm. The stock clutch looks brand new but I still replaced it for a lighter twin disc.

Pic of the bearing support and what's left of the throw out bearing.

So will that billet replacement part take care of this issue for you? Have fun with your new clutch! At least you know exactly what was wrong...

It should take care of the issue. It wont melt and leave the bearing unsupported. The new clutch makes the car feel a little lighter so I'm happy so far.

Awesome, thanks for the update.

How hard would you say it is to replace the throw out bearing?

Its definitely a big project. Hardest part is getting the trans out since it's a tight fit around the bell housing and firewall. Other than that it's pretty easy.
