Tinting rear window, 3rd brake light?
Hi Everyone. I did a search on this topic, but couldn't find anything specifically on this. I will be getting window tint soon and was wondering who has their back window tinted completely, meaning over where the 3rd brake light shines thru the rear window. I have a 4 year inspection sticker, so I'm not really worried about passing inspection (yet). So, what's the consensus? Pics of either way (cut out or not) would be great to help in my decision, SIM's a plus (that's what color my car is). THANKS!!

It looks crappy IMO with the brake light cut out. You can see the brake light fine when it's covered, even through 20 or 5% film.
It was discussed awhile back in this thread: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ht=brake+light

Oh hell NO! Do not cut out the light. I am upping a vid on you tube as we speak. Might have to turn up the brightness on your screen to see it properly. I read this post and rushed out at night to give you some tips. Sorry it was not sunlight but it was night when I read your post. Here are some pictures of the car (not so clear this was IPhone) at the installers. Very important for the rear window they pre-shrink the paper before they put in on. My installer was the 3rd person in GA to be certified (by someone I forget who) for one piece back windows 20 some years ago. It pays to find the old guys in the business to slap on your paper. The only thing I would have liked to see was a cleaner work area and a filtration system in place. When I was in Oklahoma the guy I picked had a filtered garage and a spic and span floor. Was amazing I found someone who was more anal than me years ago. Anyway back on topic do not cut out the brake lights. The shine right through the 32% paper with np. Hope the videos help. ----------> video here ----> Last edited by Wizzer; 03-11-2010 at 12:02 AM. |

Looks much better one piece, but may be illegal in your state. Just FYI.

Cover the light and you'll reduce the ability to see it in fog or rain. I want people to stop when they see me slowing down, but to each their own. The brighter it is, the quicker it will register to the drivers behind you.

It looks tinted already and this is STOCK

I would check with you local laws. Someone on this sight got a ticket because his tail lights had a tint to them. Even a decal that obstructs the third brake light is not allowed in some states. Better to be safe than sorry.
