Output shaft snapped

It will be on the lift this afternoon to be checked out further, but it sheared. I'm hoping the trans is still fine and all I will need to do is upgrade to the DSS one piece. I'll know more later, any suggestions?

This happened first time at the track since upgrading the suspension and putting a ls9 clutch in and linelock. My guess is I finally got a really good burnout to warm up the D/R and the track was already pretty sticky so it hooked and the weak link was found, and quick.

Output shaft is part of your transmission, NOT part of your drive shaft. I'm sorry to say this is going to be very expensive.

Shouldn't be if car is a 2010 under vin 25000. Known problem and GM never released vin #'s of cars with suspect transmission output shafts ( cause they really don't know ) other than cars with vins lower than 25000 MAY BE affected. There is a TSB on broken output shafts in 2010 SS cars, you need to inform your dealer about it.

My vin is just above 30,000.

SUX,
Any experience with what the costs would run to rebuild the trans? I didn't think this fix was going to be cheap, just sucks it happened right after putting 5+ grand into the thing. What's that saying you gotta pay to play.

Tick Performance offers a rebuild service.

When my TR6060 dies, it is going to Tick for a level 3.

If you are running stock axles and the trans output shaft broke before they did, that just doesn't seem right. Or maybe, like I said GM really doesn't know what cars received questionable output shafts and some are in cars with vin's greater than 25000.

I've been looking at Liberty since they are local, I can save a few bucks by dropping it off and picking it up. I'm going to give them a call and see what's up. thanks for the replies so far!

I haven't upgraded my sig, but i'm running DSS 1400hp axles, I figured I would replace those before the stock ones broke. I pretty much upgraded everything except the trans, and driveshaft at this point.

I'm always paranoid about seeing this number for this issue, since mine is 25261. Also, this was for production run 1, 125000

I've rebuilt plenty of T56s but haven't torn into a tr6060 yet, but they shouldn't be much different. I'm guessing the output shaft might be $300 or so and since you have to take the COMPLETE thing apart to swap it out I would go ahead and upgrade the syncros.

Depending on how much your shop charges I would say as cheap as $600 or as much as $1000. Also that is if it was a clean break and didn't mess anything else up.

It's sad stories like this one that make me glad I did my drivetrain before I started adding the horsepower. This past winter I added 1400 hp axles and 1 pc aluminum driveshaft from DSS along with a new clutch, Pfadt trailing arms and toe rods, and had Liberty rebuild my trans. Kevin, SUX2BU is correct it won't be cheap, Liberty will do a rebuild the same basic rebuild as the Tick level 3 for just under 2k. I had mine done as my vin# is 10320, but from your info above it sure sounds like the folks at GM haven't quite shared "all of the story" with us on the output shaft problem. I feel your pain Kevin, I ran out of coin before I could do anything with my differential so I'm hoping to get thru the year at 415rwhp so far so good best of 12.83, we'll see if it makes it to the end of the season.

I'm with you Dan, but just 125 HP over stock shouldn't be breaking anything. This car mimmicks mine as far as the build goes. Just pisses me off to hear such sad news like this with just a fair amount of increase.

1400hp axles for 460 at the tire is a slap in the face. Or it could be the crown and butterscotch schnapps talking, but this rubs me the wrong way. I may be alone on this, but this is one cheaply/minimal made car for the american dollar inside and out.
