I attached the calipers to a heavy wire hung from my ceiling to make painting much easier.

Yes, yes, yes! Genius thought - calipers suspended from the ceiling along with the cheap-o cover. No need to disconnect brake lines. Perfect.

Let's see the end result if you don't mind!

I plan on doing this without taking off the caliper. Has anyone else done it like that and does it still come out good? Also, what was the point of the enamel. Will it look worst if I don't use it? And is 10 coats of clear coat look good. I want it durable and shiny like powdercoated. Thanks.

DIY: 1LE-look Red Painted Brake Calipers

I did mine about a month ago. Yes, they look awesome. A couple points worth noting:
1) read&follow the instructions on the paint can about thickness of the coats you apply and how much time in between. (Initial coat is light; additional coats are heavier; about 10-15 minutes between; all coats take place over an hour period)
2) don't skimp on the clear coat. Very important to avoid chips. Follow the same timing & thickness process as the color coat above.
3) all the extra time and effort you put into preparing to paint (e.g. cleaning, sanding, degreaser) pays off in spades.
4) be very very careful when mounting your tires back on after all the painting. One little bump will chip the newly cured paint very easily.
5) the longer you let the finished product cure (meaning all of the coats; not each layer) before reassembly & driving.... the better.

Yes, you can paint without removing. No need for 10 coats of clear however. I only used 3 coats of paint and 3 of clear, after adding the decals.
