How long do you think until used Camaros will be for sale

I’m pretty much ready to go pull the trigger on putting down a deposit on a new 2SS Camaro but even if I do I probably won’t see it until March/April of next year. So my wife is trying to convince me to consider waiting a little longer after that and try to find a used one so that someone else can take that “drive it off of the lot” hit and maybe have some basic mods already done to the car.

I’ve never bought a new car before and I know that if I do I’ll probably take a nice hit in depreciation on it. Also, I can think of about $3k worth of stuff I would want right off the bat (tint, vinyl stripes, axle-back exhaust, Hurst shifter, CAI).

She is right…I mean ultimately it would be good to get a slightly used one with at least tint and maybe an axle-back but on the flip side I think it’s going to be like this time next year before they start showing up enough that people will be selling used ones for what they should be worth.

I’m chomping at the bit to dump my existing daily drive and get a Camaro and in a way it would be kind of nice to have that new car experience. I just can’t hardly bear the thought of waiting almost another whole year before I can start having fun.

How long do you think it will be before we start seeing used Camaros that aren’t going for $1k less or the same price as a new one?

Talked with a dealer today and he said that instead of the price going down on used they are actually going up. I saw a red 1 lt with no options and 3000 miles on it and it was selling for $33,000. I ordered my 2lt with the r/s package, sunroof and stripes and its costing me 32 out the door!

There are a lot of 'used' ones on autotrader, but sellers are wanting more than original costs for them.

Yes...that's what's happening in today's market mostly because they can't make them fast enough. Eventually they will catch up and there will be Camaros sitting in dealers inventory.

That's my thing. I wonder how long it's going to be before used ones are actually a $4k - $5k less then buying it new.

caverman, if you don't have a dealer who has an allocation let me know and I can hook you up with the best dealer in Texas, I promise that you will be most pleased. Roy

Simple supply and demand... Dealers themselve in larger metro areas are taking this route to put Camaro's in their showroom. They are buying Camaro's that are technically used from the original dealer and selling them at higher than sticker prices...

There's a 2SS IOM just like mine that at last check was advertised for $45,995 on a $38,000 sticker...

Given that we just made the hardest-to-find list, i'd say its at least 12-16 months before you see a used one (undamaged!) that has the "drive-off-the-lot" hit you're looking for.

i've seen some used ones for sale already at a few lots in here in austin. do a search there may already be one waiting for you...probably with less than 5k miles on it.

but watch out for insane dealer prices.

There are 2 used V6s sitting on the lot here for under MSRP. Haven't seen any used SS's.

As far as waiting for a used SS... I personally would never buy a performance car second hand. You have no idea what the person before you did with that car.
