Ordered early,charged for IOM,need help! - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I ordered my camaro back on October 17. My order was finally pulled at the end of May and I picked up my car on July 8th. I noticed on the sticker that I had been charged $325 for the IOM color. I was under the assumption that if you ordered this color after the month of March it was extra. The dealer just calls me today and states that he has spoken with GM and it is when they pull your order not when you had ordered. True or false or dealer is an idiot?

I got the same story for the additional cost for my RJT paint and the base price on the car. The price protection for buying early was a myth. Same thing for the special code (RP6 or whatever it was). I never found that on the car either and I ordered November 1st.

It wasn't a myth for preorders but you really have to fight for it or have a dealer that knows what they're doing. I printed off the memo someone posted (search for "price protection" and dig through the threads) as well as the build from chevy.com showing IOM being a $0 option. They still didn't want to do it so I practically begged them to call the DBC and finally they did and they made it happen. You are supposed to be price protected. The window sticker will show the new price as it's actually the price at time of built. But you are protected and the dealer will not have to pay the new price!

As my dealer has put it, there is no price protection when you order the car. You get the price of the car when it arrives at the dealer. I just ordered my car three weeks ago, and my dealer told me they would honor MSRP, whatever that may be at the time the car arrives. He said MSRP could possibly rise a little.

There was for pre-orders (up orders placed 3/15/09). Like w00t said, people have still had to fight for it.

Thanks for the info guys. I searched Price Protection and found the Thread I needed and I have already called the Manager at the dealership and he is contacting the Zone Manager as we speak--Waiting for results. Thanks again!

My guess is the dealer will end up eating the price increase rather than GM. When we ordered our GT1 in March, the order paperwork from GM's site stated that the price was not firm until the car was invoiced, which isn't until the car was built 3 months later.

Good luck, hopefully the dealer will just take the hit. Also, remember you are dealing with the "New GM" now versus the company you ordered from...so that might make things different from what others have experienced earlier.

Yeah I got charged for it too and they said the same thing that it wasn't anything that they could do and they even contacted the DBC. What the DBC told them was that I shouldn't had even known about that because they didn't tell the dealers that they added IOM at a cost as of April 7th. I just said whatever, because I didn't want a headache over 325 dollars.
