Suggestion for dealing with road salt on your car's underbody
I'm realize how blessed I am to not have to deal with road salt down here, but I know the damage it can do to your car. I'm wondering if anyone uses something like this to wash the salt out of underside of their cars. I use one just to wash out grime and mud, and it works great. The nozzle on mine has a "flat" pattern, so it's high pressure. This model has a dispenser that's meant for soap (mine doesn't have one), but I imagine you could fill it with alcohol or some other freeze retardant to keep it from icing up.

That's cool.. would be great for washing the mud off the Jeep....
As far as salt goes, I've never had any issues with the occasional pass through the car wash. |

Washington State stopped using rock salt on roads decades ago. I remember all the rusted out fenders and quarter panels on everybody's cars back in the 70's. I had no idea the practice was still allowed in other areas... You guys should start a petition.

The touchless wash I go to has under body washer sprayer and anti rust spray. I always buy 3 months season pass from Petro Canada. 1 carwash everyday. I go through them almost every other day.

I go through the local touchless carwash for the same reasons everyone else has mentioned.
While the local municipalities don't use rock salt, enough local businesses will, that it's still something of an issue where I am. Do appreciate the links to these things though. I'd no idea they existed, and I can see a number of uses for one. Thanks. |

We average 120" of snow per winter. Areas around here get 300-400" per year (yes, you read that right). We could NEVER get rid of salt (unless they develop another product that is just as cost effective). The best way to keep salt off your car around here is to not drive it during the winter. You'll never get it all out of all the nooks & crannies of a vehicle.
