Overheating Problem

My car temp gauge went up to hot marker really fast! Then it said turning off A/C !! It’s done this a couple of times! Now the A/C works Intermittent!! Both cooling fans work at different temperatures! I just set it to 180 on my cortex programmer! And it didn’t turn on at 180 like it should!!Looking for input on what is the problem?

Is the car really overheating? Fluid level ok? Is it going hot while driving or sitting? My fans do not come on while driving only sitting at lights on hot days.

Checking the most simple things first make sense to me. Like seeing what the coolant level is. You didn’t mention that

Also check and make sure you don't have an air pocket trapped somewhere in your cooling system. If so, coolant won't flow properly causing the car to overheat.

A friend of mine had this happen to his Camaro resulting in a hole in a cylinder wall where the air bubble was, thus destroyed his engine.

Rare, but it can happen.

Check your radiator cap to make sure it is sealing properly. Several years back, out of know where I started experiencing an overheating problem during a road trip in the Callaway Twin-Turbo Corvette it owned at the time. Let it cool down while I checked for leaks, couldn't find any; after it cooled down, checked coolant level and, although a little low, it was good. Managed to get it home by making periodic stops to let cool down (I never let it get too hot). Once home I had it pressure tested .. tested fine, no leaks. Given that they connected the test machine up where the radiator cap goes, I figured I'd try replacing it .. cost under $10 and solved the problem.
