FINALLY, REPORTS OF PASSING OBDII CA SMOG w/ CUSTOM TUNE

http://ls1tech.com/forums/western-me...-thread-6.html

Here is an interesting thread on LS1 tech, the first successful stories of anyone passing the new CA smog with custom tunes (jump to page 6). I dont think it will be as bad as we think.

GOOD NEWS?!?!?

Thanks for the quick fix. This is very interesting indeed. I am going to guess that they are just reading emissions numbers out of the OBD2, not actually looking for a custom tune. They may not be able to read the verification numbers from the ECM. As far as I know the only thing that can read the verification numbers is the GM Tech 2 reader. So it appears for the time being as long as your tune shows the right emissions numbers it's a pass.

More info on reading the verification numbers for the curious:
Google "#09-06-04-026A: Identifying Non-GM (Aftermarket) Engine"
It's a pdf so I can't post a link.

yea dude, I was still undecided on how far I wanted to go with my car not knowing how things would be. I previously only did the "safe" mods (borla S catback and CAI), but it looks like longtubes, sct tuner, and a tune from Ted at JRE are in my near future. Awesome news.

Long tubes won't pass a visual inspection. You willing to do the swap every year for the smog test? Im considering it.

Truthfully, yea! I have 3 years til smog currently, and then every 2 years after. Just hold on to the factory components for visual, and I can even swap my tune to stock with the SCT tuner just to be safe. Im super excited about the good news. Californians scored big time!

Moving to California?
You have 10 business days to report your move to the California DMV. (See Kunihiro information below)
Active military members in California who have registered vehicles in another state may be exempt from current California vehicle codes (to an extent). Please check with other active military members to confirm specifically. This just means you may not have to change your window tint, long tube headers, and other California V.C. violations that are legal in other states while you're "stationed" here.

so what happen if that person haven't report that change within 10 days?

and what about title name, i bought the camaro 3years ago under my brother's name bcs at that time i don't have any US license. does my brother have to be in the dmv here to register it in person?

Has anyone else been pulled over by CHP for driving in the fastrak lane with a toll tag in their Camaro? I was pulled over for the third time on Monday, didn't get ticketed any of the times due to I did have a toll tag mounted on my window. The problem is that the toll tag does get read because I see the charges on my bill, it doesn't activate the light that the CHP officer sits and looks at while you drive by. My toll tag popped of the window in my 2014 and I placed it on the window in a 90 degree from normal formation and i noticed that it made the light turn on and forgot to do the same on my 2010. I rotated it on my 2010 after I was stopped and it also activate the light on all of the rest of the check points. There must be an antenna in there that transmits through our windows better in that orientation. I have three other cars and don't see this problem on any of them.

Entering USA Airports

I was told that you need to have front license plates while going to airports. I don't think it is just a fixit, but a Ticket Ticket.

good info. I recently moved within San Diego County, was pulled over and the CHiP and informed me of the 10 day rule on notifying the DMV. I DID o the change of address on line, but did NOT get a new drivers licence. CHiP informed me he would let me off this time, but if he pulls me over again in the future, I HAD BETTER have the correct address on my license. I contacted the DMV where they informed he the CHiP was full of it. You do NOT have to replace your DL with an updated one, since they charge (i think) $30 or so for it, they cannot make it mandatory to force you to pay for a replacement. Now, i hope the SOB pulls me over again sometime soon...
