What do I tighten up next?
So my 2010 SS has BMR Lowering springs (I'm guessing 1 1/2") front and rear and BMR rear LCA's and trailing arms. I've got 20" Niche wheels with 275/40's front and 295/35's rear. I want to do some auto cross next year but when I hang a real hard corner left or right ( but no where near the traction limit) The fender starts to scrape the top of the front tire. Do I go for a strut tower brace? Front sway bar? Sway Bar Bushings? I keep reading about swaybar kits to replace both. Some guys were talking about swapping a ZL1 swaybar. My last hot rod was a 3rd Gen so the fully independent suspension is a new game for me.

What are the wheel offsets and your alignment specs? With 275/40/20's up front you shouldn't be rubbing at all. Also to confirm how much you're lowered you can measure from the road up to the fender and compare to stock height (not sure what stock height is offhand but would be easy enough to find with a search).

We have 5th Gens lowered more than yours running 325/30s on 19s and 395/30s on 20s with ZERO fender rub. Something is not right in your alignment or wheel offsets or both. Pictures and details will help.

Something is amiss for sure. Before I even installed new upgraded sways I was running BMR lowering springs on factory sways and never rubbed my tires at all.

The wheels are 20x10 with a 40mm offset. I tried to add a couple of pictures but I can't seem to do it from my iPad. I'll post them when I get back on my PC.

The front sits lower over the tires than the rear. I'll measure the height tomorrow and post it along with pictures.

Looks like this dude is having the same issue: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=469322. I'm thinking that a 40mm offset on a 10" wheel is too much.

I am having pretty much the same issue. I have the Niche Targas in 20x10 40mm for the fronts running 275/40/20s. My car is on jackstands all around and when i went to put the front left tire on it hits the strut.
I haven't tried my rears on yet but they are 20/10.5 35mm offset.

For a true dual-purpose street/autocross or street/track toy you need wheel and tire width more than you need anything more than minimal lowering. The lower CG doesn't buy you as much help as it appears to provide. Without changing anything about your wheel & tire package, you'd most likely need stiffer springs AND stiffer bars, and better shocks & struts to control those. Stiffer bars and shorter tires by themselves might be enough if the shocks and struts you have are up to it (if you're still riding around on 6 year old OE dampers, they very likely aren't). Norm

Sorry it took so long but sometimes life gets in the way of having fun. I have attached two pictures and hopefully they will show up since this is a new way of adding pictures for me.
So I measured from the concrete to the fender lip and the fronts are 28 1/8 " and the rear are 28 1/4". |

when I do the math on the tires the fronts are a 1/2" taller than the rear.

I would pull a tire and verify if it is hitting the strut or the inner fender. with a +40 I wouldn't be surprised if it hit the strut. If so, the tire diameter may be the culprit. There may be several ways around the issue once it is verified.

To check ride height, you need to have the car on a dead flat level surface. Measure from the bottom of the rim lip up through the center of the wheel to the painted edge of the fender with only 1/4 of a tank of fuel, the car as empty as it was when you took delivery.
With 20" wheels, the average SS sits at 695mm rear and 685mm front. |
