Opinions on the chevy performance LS7 lifters?

Thinking about ordering these with my new BTR Stage 4 cam setup. I don't want to spend a fortune on the Johnson lifters, but I also don't want any lifter (floating or spinning) problems. Part number 12499225

I'm in the same boat... porting the heads this winter, was going to swap them out for peace of mind...

intended usage? mostly street with occasional track/strip replace the lifter BUCKETS too! LS7 is a 100k lifter easy...for mostly track/strip since your already making more of an investment to begin with..link bar lifter good insurance policy plus most have better high rpm control/ability..good luck!

LS3 and LS7 lifters are the same. If the whole system is built right, it's a fine lifter.

A lifter failure is often a victim and not the perp.

Talk to the cam seller for tips on the whole package to avoid an unstable valve train. LS3 valves are nice and light, titanium keepers and tool steel locks help, cam lift where you can use bronze bushed stock rockers. Stock LS3 rockers have light tip weight...key for stability. Lobe profiles that are more stability focused instead of dyno king lobes that slam the valves open and closed. Aggressive ramps beat everything to death. Avoid the temptation to rev it to the moon. <7000ish.

I think if the whole package is well thought out ... new LS3/7 lifters are just fine. With stiffer springs, they like a little more oil pressure... so an oil pump that ups the pressure a bit is a good thing.

I ran original lifters on my first cam swap. I then went bigger in cam at 95k miles and replaced with new stock. I now have 129k miles on my car.

Don't forget new buckets with those lifters...... and the preload of the lifters can be noiser and more for higher rpm use or less noisey..as in typewriter sound with lessor preload more in the .040 range up than the .070 down, .070 is the ls7 using the same lifters where as ls3 is more in the .045-.060 from what I have heard over time from those disassembling here. And a lot aimed for .045 assuming wrongly that one turn of the nut making the .047 thread pitch move the nut .047 when its actually .047 x 1.7 the rocker ratio = .077 beyond ls7 and too much....and noisier and more prone to bottom out the plunger in the lifter.... Just FYI

My buckets looked good but I'm replacing them anyways. Might as well replace it all and be worry free in the end. I had the owner of my local performance shop swing by yesterday and he said the Chevy performance LS7 lifters are great. I guess I will go with them and save cash instead of spending the extra $ on the Johnson or Morel Lifters

Exactly. No such thing as "LS7 lifters."

They are LS lifters, have been for years.

And buckets... if someone is looking at them telling if they are good.. kinda like looking at a condom and telling if they are good.

Plastic... time, heat, duty cycles... wears that crap out in more ways than appearance.

When apart, throw in trash. If I ever saw a tech reusing old plastic parts in my vehicle...never working on my stuff again. But also which is why nobody else ever works on my stuff.

Yup, LS7 lifter is the only one they still make for LS motors. Try to buy a set of lifters from GM for a 4.8 liter truck motor. Part has been superceded by the ls7 lifter part number. Been that way for 10 years, yet people still think they're upgrading their ls3s with these lifters. Same part.
