Chevron Techron
OK, with just under 10K I am running Chevron Techron with 93 gas in anticipation of my 4th oil change and my RX Catch Can being done in the near future. I also am gearing up to do the throttle body. After that who knows.

Sorry, the post was geared at the Chevron Techron. All I have read is good things about it, looking for feedback from any LFX folks on the Techron.

Techron is good and all......BUT: With a direct injection engine you dont need the detergents to clean the intake valves because the gas is injected directly into the combustion chamber, not onto the back of the intake valves like port injection motors of the past. 93 octane is good of course, but I doubt anything above 91 is necessary unless you have a tune. AND quality 100% synthetic oil is best, but it should last at least 4k miles between changes.
I use AC Delco filters because they are easy to order at Amazon and OEM quality. So you are loving yourCamaro, big props for that, but you could save a little $$$ and your car and you would not notice any difference I promise. |

um why have you changed your oil 4 times in 10K miles? that is just pointless and a waste of money..

One extra change due to warranty work, that was a freebie, otherwise every 3K

3K oil changes are a HUGE waste of resources and money, but I don't really care what you do, just sayin.' There's an oil life monitor built in for a reason; it's accurate and it works.
And what does "gearing up for the throttle body" mean? All you need is one wrench and one screwdriver. And ten minutes. John B.

also pointless. There is a reason the car has a Oil Life Monitor I am @ 3,265 miles right now and I show show 68% of oil life remaining.. In my Avalanche which also had the OLM, I typically went 7,500 - 9,000 miles between changes based on the OLM and using Mobile 1.

Thanks for the info on the oil, I will take that under advisement.
Gearing up means I haven't purchased a TB yet, maybe I will get for xmas, if not then afterwards. |

Oil is cheap. Engines are not. Driving extended periods on old oil means the last 1-2 thousand miles are on oil that is on its last legs. Do I change oil that might still have life left in it? Yes. Am I trying to save $100 a year extending oil changes on a car that cost me $30k, and that costs that money in gas per tank full? No. I dont do that, its dumb math. My engine runs with nice clean oil in it all the time. Because I want to make sure in years from now my engine is in great shape, not that I squeezed a penny so hard on oil changes that Lincolns head exploded. To each his own. My Camaro is my second sweetheart.
