Rear coil over thunk
I installed a set of AFE/Pfadt coil overs on all 4 corners. I wish I had the part number, but I’ll enclose a picture when I got them from a forum member. The car had Koni Yellows shocks & struts and upgraded FE4 springs. Zero issues. Now the car makes a very distinct thunk from the rear when going over a bump. I took it to a suspension specialist and he’s pretty sure it’s coming from the new coil overs as he tightened everything and we even removed things to rule them out (end links for example). We both think it’s either they are just that noisy or they could potentially be defective, which would suck as they were brand new but I wasn’t the original purchaser.
Has anyone else used these and noticed they are just loud? Thanks. |

I have viking coilovers on the rear and they do the same thing. It has been over a year now and the sound has not changed at all. It does change based on how tight i run the adjusters for compression and rebound.
Everything is tight and double checked on mine. I believe it is in the upper mount to body plate or the upper shock mount to body plate. I have considered putting a thin dense rubber pad between the plate and body but have not done it yet. |

Viking Coil over thunk or clunk
I have the rear Viking Berserker Kit on my 2013 camaro SS and it also makes light thunk or clunking noises on rough roads. So far I changed the top mount bearings to the poly bushing. I also tried rubber pads in between the mounting plate. Nothing changed. I believe its the shock, but when I take it off the car and work it, it doesnt replicate the noise so Viking does not think its the shock. Anyone else have this issue.

Even my Air Ride rear strut clunks, seems to be a common 5th gen issue.
