Is She Dead?

So it finally happened, after 126000 miles including 2 trips across the country we had our first catastrophic failure!

At an intersection, at a stop, pulled it out of 3rd, heard a weird click, clutch felt weird and that was it. Couldn't step on the clutch, felt like I was pushing into a bucket of bolts, and I couldn't click it into any gear. Did my clutch explode? Did my trans just go? It got towed to a shop nearby who won't be able to see it until at least monday.

For a while I've felt like something has been up with the trans/clutch. It has been slightly more difficult to pull it out of gear, sometimes, not always, and sometimes I have to fall back to neutral and put it into first or second because I'm locked out. No mechanic has been able to find the issue all saying everything seems normal. For reference, everytime I've told a mechanical "I think something is off with XYZ", within the next few thousand miles, that part blows. Last time it was the bearings. Every mechanic told me it was normal road noise.

What is it now?

Yea, could be clutch, clutch plate, fly wheel, clutch master cylinder. I don't think it's the whole trans.

My concern is it became catastrophic when it could have been dealt with 10k miles ago.

In my younger days, when I lost my clutch I would start it in gear and use the accelerator to rev match for shifting. If you can push the clutch far enough to get the start switch to trigger, that might tell you a bit before you take it apart. However, it's probably the clutch.

If you are going aftermarket clutch, you are better off with a new flat flywheel anyway, so no worries on running it till it failed.

While you're in there consider putting in a Tick bleeder line and billet support bearing in the slave, maybe a separate reservoir too.

For the reservoir some guys use an old G8 part and some use Wilwood. Google is your friend.

The mechanic called, waiting on 2nd opinion from his transmission person who will be the one who does the job, 99% clutch. Master Cylinders put out pressure and slave had a vacuum. The only remaining question is if there is any issues with the transmission which we're not likely expecting. OEM clutch replacement ordered for standby.

I would've gone with the Monster EXCEPT 1) it is about triple the price, 2) It's AT LEAST a week out and I'm without a car now and 3) I'm a stock 6, I'm not pulling extra HP.

If it was close in price and readily available, even double but available immediately, I would've pulled the trigger no questions.
