It's a special edition car. If it were mine I would know exactly why someone
is taking pics. Have at it.

i gotta say, id be a bit weirded out too if someone that i didnt know was snapping shots of my VIN...

it just raises questions about your intentions, that's all. she clearly has nothing to worry about, but how could she know that?

Seems like an over reaction to me.
What if she takes it to a mall or something can't keep on eye on it out there. So who knows who all is out there looking at your vin, not like they can really get anything out of it now days.

well i wasnt going to post this, just pixs of the car, but i was wanting to get inputs from a car community that value their cars and others as well. ill respect her wishes and i wont post her vin of course since its not mine but i had no intentions of posting it anyway.

I figured she was going to tell me to delete it right away but she didnt

THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT THOSE PICS!

And I can see where I would want to ask someone about taking the picture of my vin#, but people are insanely paranoid.

Hmmm....if you don't want someone taking a pic of your VIN then cover it up. May be some urban legend to this discussion.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here!

First of all, let me say that I don't see anything wrong with taking a picture of it. But on the other hand, I would be very suspicious of other persons taking a picture of my car VIN's (not for the act of taking the picture itself, but by wondering what are their intentions that they need to do that)

How plausible is it to get a VIN number. Run a carfax. Obtain the records of the car (that shows the owner's name right?). Find out where said person lives. And...well you can see that the possibilities from here on are endless depending on what you want to do. That is of course... assuming that you can obtain the name from the carfax and then find out where said person lives.

For the record... nothing said above beats the old fashion way of just following the person back to their home without them noticing it.
