Exclamation A6 Stuck in Park

Here's a good one. While installing a stereo my '10 SS/RS I realized the shifter will not move from park unless there is power and the key is in the On position. I need to move the car a few feet and I'm a several hours away from being able to reinstall the console and power up the car.

Does any know how to disable or bypass this feature? There must be a solenoid somewhere in the shifter but, I don't want to blindly rip into it.

This could be a real PITA if you had a dead battery and needed to move the car.

go underneath and unhook the trans linkage, and roll the car....then lock it all back up.

If you are really really skinny this might work
If you find a way to do this please post. Could see how this would be a PITA if battery died.

check the manual, there is a manual shift-lock release -- manual page 8-23.

Apply the park brake.

Pull the passenger side console trim away from the front half of the console to expose the shifter mechanism.

Remove the retainer and the shift lock manual release cover.
Push and hold the manual release lever toward the rear of the vehicle.
Press the select button and move the transmission gear selector to the N (Neutral) position.
Release the lever.
After the vehicle has been moved, align the shift lock manual release cover plate and install the retainer so the automatic transmission can operate properly.
Place the console trim panel in the original position, aligning the fasteners on the trim panel with the slots in the console. Press in the side trim until it clicks in place.
The transmission selector locks if it is moved back to the P (Park) position.

Who would want to do that when you can come here and ask, wait a few hours or days, then find that the answer is in the owners manual?

camaro1 - Thanks for the help. I really didn't think this would be in the manual.

Oldrocker - It's Ok. Sometimes I'm a smart a$$ too.
