They all have that hole there. That how oil gets up the push rod to the rocker.

Assuming you don’t bleed off pressure in the tore up lifter bore.

You build a performance engine by measuring everything. Pick up some bore snap gauges and caliper and see what the lifter to lifter bore clearance is.

That block is obvious. One lifter bore is obliterated, it’s neighbor on its way out. In the pressurized oil circuit, if one clearance is too big, you are losing oil pressure.

Got a pic of the crank? Any of the journals blackened/purplish from an overheat?

That's pretty ugly when you go to the long shot.....Had a 400 small block once with a sticky lifter bore, ate the cam , scrapped the short block. Most machine shops do not even freshen up a lifter bore, as they are meant to never be honed. you could find a bushing job. Or run it like it is and pray, but yes the lifter has to easily slide back and forth about a billion times a minute and scratches etc would make the oil go a little funky in its travel..... New bare blocks like $1400.... IMO it may be a god investment if your not getting it bushed.....

But that was a 6.0 block, and .030 over for a 408. But that is for my turbo build

the johnson direct shot lifters offer pressurized oiling to the lifter AXLE...stock depend on the splash...honing the lifter bores along with either a high vol or press oil pump makes sense for endurance racing...

you want a max effort lifter look no further than the the Isky...http://www.iskycams.com/cart/ez-hydr...ers-c-109.html
uses the same bushing principle as the ls trunnion upgrade does but at a MASSIVE $$$$....

Mr. Bo...please expand on your "let her run" suggestion...the bore damage seems to extend into the bore itself and is not limited to the outer edge...so per Mike that bore would have excessive oil leak by....not enough to effect performance or longevity/dependability?

the hole has to exist in all hydraulic lifters...flat(incl solid) or roller...it's how the oil gets pumped up thru the P/R(which is why all P/R's are hollow) to each rocker/spring for lube but more importantly...heat removal...them springs gets mighty warm...

I’ve replaced a fully CNC race prepped stroker block that had a damaged cylinder. It could have been re-sleeved, but I wasn’t willing to take the chance especially in a blower application. I understand that some machine shops can do wonders in repairing blocks but if things don’t go right it’s gonna cost a lot more $$

Post 2 in this thread is a good explanation of checking lifter bore clearance.

My old lifters and my new lifters. GM
This hole feeds oil up through the pushrod to lubricate the rockers and valves. It has to be there like was said.

UPDATE! I finally got my motor back. They were able to repair the lifter bores, Cylinder walls were cleaned up (0.020 over) and new pistons. A couple rods were damaged so I got new rods and a new crank. Putting it back together now, all I need is a cam! Came out to a 379ci I believe can't wait to park the beater and drive the Camaro again! After see Bo's video of the TSP Stage 4 I'm about 99% sure I'm going with that.
