Valve Train Noise

After my cam install I am noticing increased noise from the valvtrain I think. I can hear it slightly when I am just cruising down the road and some at idle. Is this normal? Its driving me nuts, Its not real bad but it is still there. I did all pushrod measurements so the preload is correct, its about .075 or one turn. Is there anything that works to quiet it like rocker bushings?

I can hear a slight valve-ish noise when cruising certain RPMs, but it wasn't related to my cam swap. It was after I installed headers. At first thought it was a leak, then I realized I am literally just hearing the valves opening and closing through the exhaust tubing. Maybe that's what some of the noise is at least?

Does the noise seem to be coming from the valve cover area? Is it more prominent from under the car?

Thought I had bad valve train noise after doing heads cam lifters and trunnions even though the noise came from under the car. Turns out we didn't put my headers back together well and they were vibrating. Readjusted the coupler holding the collector to the x pipe and mounted the pipes closer together and now it sounds stock

I noticed today while I was waiting in line that my LS-3 has a slight valve tap at idle. Not too loud to worry, I have had many many smallblocks in my younger years that tapped.

I'll keep monitoring it though.

You got a full turn preload so you have the right pushrod lengh. Thats about it dude. Some inluding myself run 7-7.5qts of oil instead of the usual 8. It seems to help.

this is why i run 7 - 7.5 quarts. i saw you mention it and i tried it to quiet some lifters and it worked. i think my engine is quieter now than it was when i got it lol

i'd give it a shot next oil change if it really bothers you

That's the opposite of what I would think. I had thought about going a half qt. Over. Learn sitting every day here.

Granted Im not 100% sold on why but....
theory behind it is the oil level with 8qts puts it close enough to the crank that it airates the oil and it accumilates in the lifters and causes them to tick.
