HP Tuners Engine Torque and Horsepower
This thread intends to compile data using the delivered engine torque PID in HP Tuners and the Horsepower formula in the video below. Just attach an image of your calculated torque and the estimated horsepower using HP Tuners or other Data-logging equipment.( Preferably a screenshot of your stock calculation and your tuned calculations.)
Formula used: (Torque*RPM)/5252 Here is a YouTube video that shows you how to set up the calculation for this forum. Sample Format Gear you completed the pull in: List of Mods: screenshot HP and Torque (untuned): Screenshot of HP and Torque (Tuned); Here is mine. I haven't used the calculator for the stock tune yet. Gear you completed the pull in : 3rd List of Mods: Injen Intake, mishimoto intercooler, ZZP catted Downpipe, Screenshot of HP and Torque (untuned): NA at this time Screenshot of HP and torque (tuned) : See Attachment for now lol Maximum values : HP:306 Torque: 322 Last edited by Delpy; 12-04-2018 at 08:51 AM. |

These are the formulas I use
HP = (Speed * Torque) / 5252 wHP = ( (Speed * Torque) / 5252 ) * .90 - estimating a 10% lose at the wheel

10% is very optimistic even for a manual trans. Not an expert by any means, but I've seen drivetrain loss estimates of 13-15% for manual and 16-20% for auto transmissions everywhere.

Huh most of us are seeing maybe 13 to 14% on the A8. When you say 20% it makes me think your stuck in the A6 days of the late 90s early 2000s.

The goal of this thread is not to determine the efficiency of the drive train. Just follow this procedure and post your stuff, its not to be exact science. These values are just a reference and a valuable one i think. So in other words, cut the chatter and lets see some posts guys!! lol
Everyone bust out your tuning devices , follow the video and share your results !!! If you don't have a device maybe message someone on this forum that does and possibly work something out!! (If they're in your vicinity) So from this point on lets just try to follow the format in the op. |

HP Tuners Engine Torque and Horsepower
So using that guys YouTube math, here’s something for you to look at...
This was the run I broke my piston on, literally a couple frames later. This was 3rd gear, catless down pipe, 72mm tb & 3” charge pipe, k&n airfilter, meth injection. Tuned. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Heh, I'll update and recheck my sources, thanks

Hmm.. I don't think the discussion of drivetrain loss should be discarded. In fact, it directly relates to the formulas used in the calculations. But what do we REALLY know about the 8l45 or 8l90's drivetrain losses? Some stock dyno's? Let's not forget how notorious GM is for under-rating their engine outputs. Or the amount of variance between the same engines. 10hp might not seem like much, but on a 300hp engine, your talking about a 3% error right there. I have not seen anyone pull the engine for an engine dyno, followed by a re-installing the same engine for a chassis dyno. Even then, you get into dyno inconsistencies ect ect.. So it would be very difficult for me to place any HARD numbers on drivetrain loss. Very interesting subject that should be discussed.

I agree it’s important . But that’s not the intention of this thread . To put it simply ,I want to start taking advantage of the virtual dyno our ecu’s provide us with so long as we all use the use the same method. It should be fairly accurate. If enough of us post here we can start compiling data and draw correlations in different threads
Im hoping this thread soon steers where I want it to and all that’s posted on it are pictures of what you’re ECU spit out If it satisfies you , multiply your value by how efficient you think you’re drive train is. just be sure to let us know the multiplier you selected and everbodies happy lol |

Oops, my bad Delpy , I forgot why I was initially replying to your post.
Here is my stock VS tuned graph. HP can not be configured in the beta version of the software used on my OS. First graph is Bone stock. Second is Tuned+JacFab Valve. The math=256hp/277tq stock 342hp/377tq tuned. I believe roughly 16% drivetrain loss is configured in the formula. Great thread by the way! P.S. (excuse the large dip near the mid/end of my 1st gear "tuned" run...stabilitrak must have thought I was "too" sideways..lol)

So, I went to log the car today....after Installing the IC.
Got up to 4th gear and blew a charge pipe max I got up to was 222 crank Also, the results seem to fluctuate too hard for my car and don't have a steady climb they just spike then drop

I'm pretty sure the calculation for transmission losses is already there as you are using the delivered torque pid which I think already accounts for drivetrain losses.

Yes and no....I think its a no mostly because in the video the guy states there's a rear sensor and we're using the forward engine sensor if we can differentiate the sensors we may be able to pull the correct number hopefully

No worries Cooper, Nice Numbers!! Are you still seeing any KR?
DarkFangz, is the car running smooth?...the sensor should be able to read what the car is putting out? Here is another pull: The tune is turned up a little in this one. Gear: 3rd Mods: Injen intak, ZZP catted, Mishimoto intercooler Few details from the log: Barometric : 14.4 psi IAT: 70 deg IAT2: 90 deg Ambient: 66 deg Am |
