Went in for an oil change...

So I went into Firestone for an oil change, before I head across town to get a tune on the car. Also told them to replace the wiper blades. Well guy comes back and says he needs to talk to me. Says that they tested the battery and it’s weak. So I said I just had it replaced last September, and he goes well something is draining it and it’s weak. Car hasn’t been hard to start and voltage has been fine. So he asked who replace the battery...I said you guys did. He didn’t expect that so now they have to replace it under warranty. Dummy. Trying to get over on me. Oh he also asked if I leave anything on after I turn the car off and one of the things he listed was AC. Ugh you’re gonna have a bad time sitting in the car with the AC on if the car is turned off 😂

Yeah, when I was a younger man (20?) I took my '70 Chevelle into Firestone to have them do the ball joints. They said I needed new A arms cause the replacement ball joints didn't fit in the stock A arms. Thought that sounded kind of stupid so I said no thanks. Drove it from Iowa to California without any problems (except for the shocks).
Haven't been back to Firestone since.

Looks like they tried to pull a fast one on you. Luckily you caught on to it.

You have to be careful with these franchise operations. They sometimes reward their people for “upselling”.

Not surprising. The Japanese parent company that owns Bridgestone also owns Firestone. Welcome to the global economy!

My battery died last weekend. Almost 2 months to the day out of the 3 year warranty. One day it was fine, the next it was dead. I do use a Range and leave it in for a day or so at times but I think it’s a combination of a lot of electronic stuff in the car and a high compression engine. Dunno.

It's usually faster, and always cheaper for me to just change my own oil.

A Firestone store would be just about the last place I would go for an oil change.

Yeah, me too. But my main complaint is the guy is basically lazy and takes a while to get around to doing anything.

Check to see how frequent you drive your car, or if it sits for long periods without being started. Sitting for long periods inactive (weeks, months) will drain the battery, and if this is the case you may want to look into getting a battery tender. Tenders help extend the life of a battery.

Aside from this, good timing was on your side in that the provider of your battery caught the issue, and now is on the hook for replacing it. I'm not sure how good Firestone products and services are, so just keep an eye out for anything unusual.
