AUTO INSURANCE

Sorry for the long post.

Here's my auto insurance mess! I have a 2011 Camaro 2lt purchased on 9-1-10. I've had 21st Century Auto Insurance (formally AIG) for 11 years, without any tickets, accidents, or any other claims. Changed the policy to the Camaro, no problems. These policies are in 6 month durations. So on 3-1-11, received my renewal notice, with no increases or problems. Well here's where it starts:

Renewal for 9-1-11

1 - Received a renewal notice dated 7-26-11 for $347.44.
2 - Received an "Amended" renewal notice dated 8-1-11 for $467.64.
3 - Received an "Amended - Amended" renewal notice dated the same day (8-1-11) for $485.89

After 2 conversations with a "Supervisor", here's their explanation: There "computer" had the wrong calculations because of the VIN number type. So I said it took you almost a year to figure that out. Answer, sorry. They also said there was insuffient data on the car, since it was a new model. I explained that the car has been in production since April of 09 and that there are over 180,000 on the road. No Answer! Finally the last reason was that it was a "high performance" sports car. I said that it was the 6, not the SS with an 8. Answer, doesn't make a difference.

Said they would give me a 3% discount if I paid on-line. LOL, what a joke!

Time to move on to another agency...I have been with State Farm for several years and have not had any issues so far. I did change my agent for more reasons that I care to list.

Get a new carrier. I'm in the insurance field and 21st Century has a bad rap for starting you off with a low rate and increasing it as you go. Hook you in and then stick it to you. The are known for that.

I would stay away from those online companies...go to a company with an agent in town.

I've used GEICO for almost 10 years with no issues. They have always been super fast and super efficient when it comes to claims, and most cities have a local agent now.

Military discount is nice, too.

Get into USAA if you can. Even if you were not military sometimes you can get in based on a family members service. (Parent etc). Plus Chevy offers a $750 rebate on vehicle purchases if you have USAA insurance.

Sounds more like 16th Century Insurance. Time to shop around.

21st Century (AIG) also bought Farmers. If you've never called their claims department, you're lucky--I frequently have to and hold for 1/2 an hour just to get a rep on the phone. They're a joke.

As stated, State Farm, USAA, Allstate, Progressive and even Geico are pretty good. State Farm/Allstate tend to be a bit more, but offer multi-line discounts if you have home/renter's etc. I'm with Progressive but work for one of the other companies I mentioned in claims. Just make sure whatever company you go with, they're not quoting you less by removing coverages you already have or reducing your limits.

Any questions on specifics, PM me!

The lowest that I could find outside of AAA was 1400 for a 2011 SS. My AAA with better coverage and benefits were 1100 a year. I was sold. I have been with AAA for 12 years and have been a happy camper. I insure my bike through State Farm and they have been slowly raising the rates for the past 5 years on me. I'm thinking of bringing it over to AAA.

I'd find a new insurance company. Been with USAA for 23 years and only a couple of problems, when there were they have always worked to make things right. If you're current or ex-military, or a dependent, you may be eligible.
