Tire pressure on track- front vs rear

Wondering what pressures others are using on track. Running Michelin PS4S. Cold winter day but sunny so track temp reasonable.
Started with 32f 32r psi cold. Felt like the front tyres not hanging on well in the corners. Added 4 psi to the front and felt more stable. Kept rears at 32.
Are others running more pressure in the front vs the rear tire? Possible the Michelins have a soft side wall compared to the original Goodyears??

A rule of thumb that I have used is to get the pressures to a point where the tire is just using the full tread width and tread shoulder.
Most performance tires have markings just below the shoulder of the tread on the sidewall.
In my autocross days, we would pit a 2-4 chalk lines on the tires from the shoulder of the tread down the sidewall to see how far the tire was rolling over.

What you were probably experiencing was too much front tire roll-over at that initial tire pressure.
For my Nitto Invos, I run up 35-38psi up front and about 30psi rear.
I also run a staggered tire setup, 295 front - 315 rear. If I went back to 295 square, I wouldn't be having so much front push/understeer, but I like the look of fatties on the back.
Play around with the pressures in that ballpark.

Thanks Trawz. I’m running 285 front 295 rear. Balance seems ok for understeer……until it rains

The front tire was further into the sidewall marking than the rear and that’s when I added some pressure. Good to know I’m on the right track. I hadn’t felt the front tire roll over before. I must have been too low.

I'm running 26 hot front and rear for Auto-X. Tires are Yok A052s.

What TRAWZ said
I run between 30-34 depending on the tire.
Heavier cars need more pressure until you get down to the race tires TW below 100
I have 3 sets all square.
285/35/20 Bridgestone Potenza RE070RF 140TW the run flats are actually OK for what I paid
285/35/20 Nankang NS2R 200TW I really like
315/30/20 Gladiator XComp 140TW will try almost free so why not.

You are fitting 315s square on 20s? On what width wheel?
I would Love to go square 315s on my stock 20s but I have been told they will rub.

My Nitto Invos are 280TW and lasted 3 seasons of track days. They were "OK" but defiantly worth what I paid. Now, they are at their end of their life and I'm looking for a new set of meats that will be happier doing track work.

So are we saying the street tires need more pressure than the race tires? Is that due to softer side walls??

Yeah i have a set of square 305/30/20. I don’t normally like the 30 series sidewall as they are stiffer.
Im running the 305/30 square on
20x10 gen5 ZL1 front
20x11 gen5 ZL1 rear

I have not fit them on yet but I can’t see why they wouldn’t fit.
RUB??? They shouldn’t.

Actually they are
305/30/20
Sorry
My daily set are
285/35/20 Gen6 ZL1 Front
315/35/20 Geb6 ZL1 Rear
And
285/35/20 Stance Front 20x10
305/35/20 Stance Rear 20x11

Im not running street tires. Unless you think 200TW and less are street tires?
I run about 32 cold 36-38 hot. Tracks are hot out here.
Anything below the 32 and the Camaro just pushes rolls over on the tread.
Thats what ive seen/felt anyway.

Ah! That makes more sense! Fitting 315s square would be a feat.

My current set is:
295/35R20 Front 20"x10"
315/35R20 Rear 20"x11"

The fronts take a beating on track due to the weight and the fact I am running staggered.
I have to be a minimum 35-38psi hot on the fronts otherwise the tire rolls over.
The Nitto's I have been running are starting to chunk.
Might move to the 305/30R20 square next season.

Which Nitto you running?
When i first started out my street Nitto NT555G2 chunked. Their not a track tire.
They chunk because their not warmed up enough and you get on them too hard too fast-its what she said anyway. Haha
They take a good 2-3 laps progressively heating them.
Then only good for about 3/4 laps before they break down from too much heat n get slick.

My daily tires are
Nitto NT555G2
Michellin Pilot Sport 4S

Cureent track day tires
Nakang NS2R
Bridgestone Potenza RE070RF
Gladiator X Comp

They are Nitto Invos. For what I payed for them, I'm happy with how they performed.
The Invos didn't perform great on track, but they lasted 3 years of mixed track and street use and only now they are starting to chunk when over heated.
Being that they are at the end of their life, I'm looking to get something more comfortable with regular track use and some street use.
