Error Codes P0430 and P0420.

Hey guys i had headers put on my car a few weeks ago, been driving fine until this morning when my CEL came on and was given error codes P0420 and P0430. Both are catalyst effiency below threshold. When i had them put in we didnt have time for a tune because of an incoming snowstorm. I cant get back to get the car tuned for another 10 days. I drive approx 25miles per day. Is this something i should be worried about that will cause a bigger problem with the engine or will it be fine until next friday? The guy that did it claims it will be fine until next friday but my friend had headers done and waited for a tune and caused engine damage in his car.

No, you will be fine. It is just an error reading because your exhaust is flowing way better than the computer expects it to. There a lot of folks who wait on the tune, and just ignore the CEL.

Yeah, just needs a tune, no worries, my guy drove his SS for a while after installing headers without the tune. You'll be okay

I installed my cat delete pipes two weeks ago and have gotten hose same codes, I just clear them so I don't see the light but it'll come back on a day or two later. I did my research too because at first seeing the light you'll freak out. Just wait for the tune and have the rear O2s turned off.

I've had long tubes for several years now with no tune. I just have a Bluetooth OBDII reader and I clear my codes with the Torque App on my phone every time the CEL pops up.

You're good

I have had the same codes pop up and have cleared them with my Hypertech programmer but they continue to come back. Has anyone else had this problem? It is a real pain in the butt because it will not let me remote start it with the CEL on.

I had a CEL for about a year with no issues. You are in the same boat as be waiting for a tune.

P0420 P0430 Codes

The CEL is on my v6 2010 LS w/ the P0420/P0430 codes. The mechanic is recommending an o2 sensor extender - any idea if that will work?

Possibly. Some people use a modified spark plug non-fouler to get the post-cat O2 sensor further out of the airflow stream. It may work if you are borderline. Its quick and easy to try and doesn't hurt anything.
