I just purchased the AC Delco Dexron fluid from rockauto. I'm not a mechanic or chemical engineer; just a guy driving a camaro. I try to stick OEM as much as possible. Your safest bet would probably be to grab some from your local dealership, but that will cost you more.
As far as the amount, you should check your owner's manual. I drive a V6 auto, and it took a little over 6 quarts if I recall (don't quote me on that). I did the temperature level set rather than the drain-and-replace-with-same-amount method. |

Most people will tell you the AC Delco Dexron is best, and in most cases I would agree.
Problem for me is that I cannot run that in my car without issues. The Delco fluid produced a terrible 2-3 shift flare whenever I ran it. I was able to completely eliminate it by running with Valvoline Max Life full synthetic ATF. Not sure why or what the difference is. I am not recommending anyone else do the same, just stating what worked and didn't work for my trans.

Factory for me - I have a GPI modified setup with a ZL1 torque converter - road raced it. I also have a trucool 44k trans cooler for that...
Never tried the Valvoline Max but it may be a good option... -Don

That is not the correct transmission fluid for his Camaro. Fluid usage is as follows:
6L80 uses Dexron VI 8L90 uses Dexron HP 10L80 uses Dexron ULV Why do they use 3 different fluids in 3 different transmissions? Use the wrong one and chances are you will find out! |
