It’s really only bad if you’re in a traffic jam and just aren’t going anywhere.
In normal traffic, even stopped at lights for a minute or two, you don’t really notice a difference. It was 93 out today and going home traffic was not horrible.
As such it was fine. It’s just sometimes maddening with forced extended idle time and very hot outside temps.

I probably won’t rip it out. I was just real frustrated after a horrible commute home on Friday with numerous wrecks making traffic horrible on the way home. It still works great aside from not so cold air after extended idling, and even after a 45 minute drive home with it being 93 outside today, my IAT’s were as low as 105 with some throttle. That’s saying a lot considering where the E force IAT sensor resides.

Just wish I understood what the lingering issue was and how to fix it.

My iats stay about 135 on the whipple when it's 90 degrees out. If I give it some throttle they go down to 120 or so but cruising stays at 135.

Dave, do you read off of the IAT1 sensor?

Meanwhile, it would great if someone from the Southeast would get with TrekGTO and let him prototype a kit for our Gen6s.
I agree, I wish I could confirm there is room for our 19".

I’m only aware of one IAT reading that I see either on my aeroforce or my sct x4. To my knowledge my car is set up sensor-wise to only give the one reading, and the sensor is in the #8 cylinder intake runner plenum adaptor. If there’s another reading I’m unaware of it.

Where do your readings come from? Your numbers seem awfully high over ambient.

Was talking to Joe Kincaid today via email about the hardly cool air at idle speed when it’s 90+ out. He said either the fan speed needs to be bumped up anytime the AC is on, and if someone doesn’t wish to do that, to try swapping the IC fluid in and out lines at the KC unit itself. Original instructions call for the inlet to be at the bottom (where the coil is) and the outlet to be the other one at the top. Joe thinks it should be reversed, and that should help the air be cooler at idle on hot days. I didn’t ask for details as to why specifically, as I had a lot going on at work. But I will try that some weekend, and if it helps I will certainly report on it.

Dave, can you get a temp on your SC coolant? Mine is about 80 degrees.

Not anytime real soon, but yes I'll do this and let me know what mine is.

I just added a little Freon and my idle iat went down to 129 and the coolant temp is 65 degrees. 90 degree ambient temp.

Awesome. Just hit the filler neck with my thermal gun and got 78.2 F.
Do you know where your IAT’s are measured?

Edit: also I’m just running the regular r134a Freon and don’t have the heat exchanger bypass engaged (so the heat exchanger is likely working against the system as temps in my garage were about 95.

I don't know exactly where the sensor is. I'm using the industrial r134 replacement and I had it on bypass. I think I'll add a little more tomorrow, I was setting at about 245 high side pressure and KC recommends 2.8 x ambient which would have been 255ish. I'm thinking my gauge is in a sort of eddy that doesn't get good air flow. I can ease into it and the iat will drop to 112 or so.

Pressures are so variable with conditions. This talk about adding more Freon reminds me of a company we bailed out last year that had added a second drier and were using the sight glass to make sure they had liquid in the liquid line which is just wrong with 134a. They had customers and shops adding and adding Freon until they were over charged by pounds not ounces. What are your low side pressures? HX needs to be bypassed when testing. Daves1SS you should call me.

Joe at KC told me to add until it got to 2.8 times outside pressure, so that's what I did. I put a gauge on the low side once and it's high, like 60, but once again Joe said don't worry about it.

At the moment I am running 2.8 times 90 degrees, which is approx ambient, and my SC coolant temp was sitting at 58 today. Inside air blows cold even at an idle but my IAT is 122 cruising down the road at 70...which is still 20 lower than is was last week but no 105.

60 on low side is never going to be cold on any car. I can help you guys but will not do it on open Forum. 32 and 175 are good cold pressures, 35 and 225 is good.

And just to answer the IAT sensor questions, the Camaro has only one sensor, and it's combined with the pressure sensor, the TMAP sensor. There is no IAT2 sensor like some other GM products.

Dave is correct in that Edelbrock mounts the sensor in a intake manifold runner right above the intake valve. Magnuson mounts the TMAP in between two intake runners, but I can't remember which one. Magnuson's setup was the inspiration to move my TMAP sensor on my Edelbrock setup to in between the runners. Measured IAT's dropped 25* across the board with no increase in knock. Cruising IATs are around 100* and 125* at the end of a hard pull.

Do keep in mind that my actual IATs didn't really change like it does with your chiller setups. But moving the TMAP sensor was definitely worth the effort.
