Dealership wants $1,000 to order equinox

Hey guys,

My dealership wants $1,000 deposit to order my equinox for mid-june. Does this sound like a fair deposit or no?

That sounds fair enough, but I'd encourage them to do a locate instead. Most dealers are willing to trade an Equinox they have for one that hasn't sold yet.

That's very true. Dealers are having trouble getting Equinoxes with the demand they've got right now. You might want to consider this when ordering, though. This might help you avoid that long wait and anxiety in getting your car.

Sounds fair enough. I had the same $1000 down ordering my new SRX. It took 3 months from my initial word of confirmation, and just a pinch over a month from it's build date, for it to arrive. But my dealer is over 3000 kms from the plant too.

$500.00 deposit is more the norm. Just make sure it is fully refundable in case you need to cancel...get it in writing.

I was going to say that seemed OK to me until I saw Camaro Scotty's post above. I put $1000.00 down when I ordered my Camaro at my local dealer. Maybe you should go with Scotty instead?

Interesting. I've never been asked for a deposit when ordering a GM vehicle. I usually don't do any of the financing paperwork until the vehicle arrives either. My dealer must have been nice to me.
