Why are the Flowmaster AMT's so cheap?

I found it for ~$650 from a few places. This thing is like half the cost of Borla, magnaflow, and the #1 exhaust system I was looking at for a while - SLP Loudmouth + powerflo X pipe.

Am I missing something? Is it not made of the same type of steel the others are? In my opinion it sounds better than most of the others, and almost as good as the SLP catback I was planning on ordering.

Because they are made of 409 stainless steel. 409 is one of the cheapest grades of stainless available. Borla and Corsa use 304 stainless which is a much higher quality.

I live in NJ, will I have a problem with rust if I go with the Flowmasters? I don't plan on driving it in the snow, but do plan on driving it in the winter with a little more salt on the ground.

I'm pretty sure your stock exhaust is 409. So for comparisons sake, I would think it would be of similar quality.

It's my understanding the Flowmaster AMT come with a 10 year warranty regardless of the material used. This made my decision to purchase the Flowmaster AMT a no brainer. You could purchase 2 sets of Flowmasters for the price of 1 set from others.

Maybe the better question should be, "why are others so much more expensive?" This could be argued all day long on both sides.

My car will be in storage during winter months, so I personally do not feel my exhaust will fall apart within 10 years.

It's YOUR choice! I love my Flowmaster AMT cat back and have had LOTS of from people.

You will NOT have a problem. Stainless will NOT rust, whether it's 409 or 304. The difference is LOOKS, 304 has a better appearance, hence the added price tag.

It's funny - I thought the Flowmasters looked better because they were dark gray - it's harder to spot them under there from the back. Flowmasters it is, then!!

Um people are stupid and will pay high prices for things that didnt cost that much on other cars....I.E. Corvette tax..which has now moved to the 5th gen Camaro tax.

Double price...check.
Double performance...........Bueler? Bueler?

Look at CAIs for example..you can pay $300 and get 10hp, or you can pay $500 and get 12hp. Whatever floats peoples boats though.

Flowmaster should have made a full stainless exhaust like Corsa, I have flowmaster systems on my 71 and 88, and planned on getting Flowmaster for my 2010, but when Ted Jannetty showed me the Corsa, I went with the Corsa and absolutely glad I did.

I got mine for $350. They arent cheap, its Borla that is over priced and over rated.

Yeh but that 409 Stainless steel will last the lifetime of the car.
