The front engine Vette certainly is going out with a bang, before the mid-engine arrives.
That said, I think the front engine version will hang around a bit longer (few years?)...I guess its possible we could see more halo versions, but I don't know how they will top this one.

are they trying to mask the exhaust note with whatever those are sticking out the back end (I assume they are exhaust pipes)?

Well....dunno what to say about it. I'll wait until it hits the street. It basically is looking like an uptuned Z06, with a large price tag attached to it. They might be planning some added touches to make it a track monster, ala ZL1-1LE.....maybe.
Edit: Its looking like Chevy will have four models based on the same powerplant, but at escalating prices. I would've waited until the development of the mid-engine platform for a ZR1, as this one isn't making me wonder or anticipating its arrival. Its just a little bit underwhelming, even though I know it will be a performance giant.
