If it doesn't I will switch it. I always did a dino change at 500 and then a synthetic change at 1000 anyways.

So is it a good idea to change at 500 or 1000 miles or is that just personal preference.

Ill be changin it at 500, 1500, and 3000. then after that every 3000. It's just personal preference for me. You can never change the oil too much. But unlike the others i will be staying with the mobil one synthetic. I run it in my 71 chevelle, my 04 silverado, and i ran it in my 02 camaro ss before it was stolen and ive never had any problems.

The reason new cars needed changed early was the "break-in" period. engine assembly/machining tolerences have gotten a little better in the last 30-40 years. I will most likely change at 500 miles then go longer on the intervals. If I changed every 3-5,000 I would have an oil change due every month. I go about 10,000 on the VW with synthetic. I would go longer but it only has about 4.5 qts in it.

I plan on running Royal Purple in it after the break in period and it will probably knock on anything less then 91

i doubt it will knock running lower than 91, but it will retard the spark timing to prevent the knock.

yeah, but why cheap out on one of the most vital necessities in the motor?

Heres how I like to do it, its different with Hemis

3000 miles on synthetic or every 3 months, which ever comes first

I used Q horsepower and had great results I like it but now I'm running Royal Purple and mobile 1 filters and don't think I'll go back to Q

You are correct AMSOIL is #1 in synthetic oils many test have proven this , after all they were the first to produce synthetic oils years ago and have the most experience with it , using synthetic oil will improve your MPG plus give you a little more HP and of course increase the longevity of your powertrain it is a no brainer .

Have a look at this site:

http://mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

There's a lot of good information and this chap emphasizes NOT using synthetic during break-in. Whether-or-not you agree with everything, I think it has a lot to think about.

ALSO, check out "Patman" on LS1tech. Try searching "oil analysis." I can't find the post I was originally thinking of, but I thought he had made a spreadsheet, of sorts, that had a lot of comparisons between several brands with the results of lab testing on his engine oil. It was very interesting.

Ooo... I found this too: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/
