GM is allowing Corvette owners to build the engine themselves

For the 2011 model year You will be able to build the engine of your ZO6 or ZR1 Corvette! How cool is that! To be able to say you built it would be sweet! It'll cost you a few grand but it's totally worth it. Here's the link to the story. It would be cool if this trickled down to the Camaro perhaps for the pending Z28.

GM to allow Corvette buyers to build the engines themselves

This is a first. It only applies to the Z06 and the ZR1 models though. And you do not void the warranty.

I wish I could pay the extra $5,800 to have them put a factory supercharger on instead.

I'm curious as to exactly how that machine that torques the bolts works. Example 1:15

Now GM needs to do the same with the Camaro.

Lessee...charging me $5K + extra so ~I~ can work on my own car, which I'd probably be doing later anyway...and either way it doesn't affect warranty...what a way to boost the labor force and make money doing it. Clever.

Tell you what, it'd be MORE interesting is if you got to work on other engines too, like the rest of the employees. See if GM would warranty that!

I know it's one of those "experience" things that can last a lifetime for someone that has a few grand to toss around, but still. We went to Niagra Falls for the "experience" and it cost us a LOT less than $5K.

I might pay that if I just got to go do that for a day...but not having to buy a Z06 or ZR1 to have the "privilege" to do it.
