Copper brake pad legislation was enacted 10yrs ago. Just wasn't complied with yet. 2022 you can order a ZL1 again in CA. I'll never order a car as long as I live so I'll just buy one off the lot if I wanted one. Doesn't affect my SS.

What I want to know is how -Brembo- whiffed on this. Not trying to deflect blame away from GM because they clearly screwed up on this badly as well, but their supplier should have already been well down this path of their own accord.

Some good info I posted in the SS 1LE section on this:
https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...7&postcount=20 The question becomes: Is Chevy working to replace the brake pads in the Camaro so the track-capable models can be sold in California and Washington, going forward? Remember, the car is likely to go away after 2023MY. |

Been doing some random perusing and reading, and couple it with the more dangerous "thinking." Here's what I'd be interested in understanding:
The laws/restrictions that go into effect on 1/1/2021 have been known about for YEARS. Not only is GM fully aware, but so is Brembo - none of the C8 brakes have any problems associated with the new restrictions. So why, then, did Brembo not take any sort of proactive action at either some point during the Gen6 Camaro's lifecycle or at the start of the Gen6's production to create a pad that would meet the new limitations? Even if not for use on production cars being built, there are a LOT of cars in locations that will not be able to use the replacement pads as brake jobs need to be done. Going deeper into the think tank, I wonder if the pads for the Gen6 cars weren't produced and stockpiled somewhere. The new law applies ONLY to those products MANUFACTURED after 1/1/2021. So, pads that were produced prior would seemingly have no issue being used because they can continue to be sold for something like 5 or 10 years. Yes, GM may have had to move to make the the Brembo pads a deal-installed option to demonstrate through tracking the parts being installed were compliant with the law. And yet another step further... Given that GM does some of the absolute DUMBEST things some of the time, why not just pull the Brembo pads from the production cars and put the lawyers to work on exclusions in the track warranty if you don't change to certain pads... blah blah blah. There are so many ways that this whole entire stupid situation could have been avoided or worked around that it boggles the mind why it ever occurred. |
