If any SW updates are realeased from GM the dealer put the radio on test mode so they can download the update

Where? I looked at didn't see it, thats why I tried the config button.

It should be the center push of the right selector knob IIRC...

renew it, but just don't take the first offer. You have to deal with them to get a good package. Tell them they are too expensive, can't afford it.. they keep on dropping the price.

Very true--left it unactivated for about 2 months, they called to offer 5 months for $23

and no reconnect fee.

When the 5 months are up, I'll let it lapse some more.

Mine has a Menu/Select button. It's on the right. You use it to manually change the stations. Or to activate the secret test mode.

There is nothing in the owners manual or service manual about it. I'd bet it's just some test mode the supplier has programmed into the software for their use. Or maybe during assembly plant end of line testing to run the radio through some sort of function test.

Better yet, buckle the girlfriend in the passenger seat... activate the test mode.. and say hang on honey, I feel the need.. the need for speed

Not that bad, if you threated to cancel you won't believe the good offers you get, in fact if you go ahead and cancel they will send you stuff in the mail,, I got an offer for 3.95 a month for 3 months or 6.95 a month for 2 years from them just the other day...
