I'm still on the fence.
Auto is good for traffic. But my question about the A8- Does that shudder manifest itself as constant, or is it sort of fleeting/intermittent? I notice something particularly when the car is in V4 mode. I wish it didn't have AFM, personally. I could tolerate a clutch and manual, for my average speed is generally in the 30-40mph range, and I live out from congested areas. ??? |

Being 70 and having owned muscles cars since the sixties, I always had manuals. Even my last modern muscle car the 15' Z/28 (>700hp) was of course manual. What I have found with this new A10, is that GM engineers have created a trans with the ability to always be in the right gear. The trans always seems to be matched to the power required by the accelerator position, while downshifting on let-off to the correct gearing again. This is especially noted in track or sport mode, with an uncanny ability to be in the correct gear coming out of turns.
To say I am impressed with the A10 would be an understatement, especially after owning so many manuals. Kudos to GM for making a tranny that gives this much control, while allowing the driver to focus on car position.

My wife drives an A8 1SS, my 2SS H50 is an M6. The A8 is so easy to go fast in, but...the M6's fun factor can't be matched. I'd buy M6 again every chance I had.

It is primarily market share and emissions driven. It is easier for supercar makers to make fuel economy and emission goals with AT's. More importantly, market analysis has shown that MT demand is only about 1% of potential supercar buyers! So they have made AT's standard. In some cases they will fit an MT for an additional fee. Modern AT's are also able to handle the high horsepower of supercars with a greater safety margin. And, yes, they do outperform MT's. But these are not the main reasons supercar manufacturers do what they do. |

I Understand that the DFM is tuned out on the stick. This would be a major decision point for me. DFM is more complex (hardware and software) and not yet proven in the field. Non-active DFM just may save one major repairs as the miles build up. AFM has caused problems and expensive repairs when out of warranty. Clutch pack is cheaper than removing heads to replace cams and lifters.
If I was into mods that kill drivetrain warranty, I would choose the auto and aftermarket converter. That said, an auto would be my choice if one has any foot ,leg or hip issues. Or maybe if always, always in traffic. |

I'm very happy with the 6 speed in this car. Would not want an auto.

Never a second thought for me. I've never owned an automatic in over 40 years of driving, starting with a 1974 Z28. As long as they keep making them and I am able to drive them, I will always choose manual.

Test drove a couple 6spds and came from a GT manual. But the ‘19 A10 in the SS is really good. Enjoying it so far and not missing the manual. Can’t go wrong with either except 6th in the manual was really tall even for O/D Felt like it was lugging at 80.

In my 2004 Corvette 6 speed I put a 4:10 rear in and that really woke the car up. I could use 6th gear at 50 mph and I only lost 2 mpg. IDK if you can do that with the Camaro with all the sensors but I guess 1st gear would be hard to take off and still have traction with 455 hp. My Vette only had 350 hp and it was a hoot. |
