Why I came back to Chevy

I just recently traded for a 2017 SS, and I'm glad I did. So far the car has exceeded my expectations in almost every way. My BIGGEST mistake was listening to online reviews and the longterm vehicle testing articles when deciding which pony car I wanted.

Back in 2015/2016 Ford dropped the redesigned Mustang and I was all about the Shelby. I could not afford the Shelby so I decided to go with the lower model GT C/S. I liked the feel of the GT but from day one I was never totally satisfied. After about 2K miles I noticed a vibration. Took it back to my dealer, they denied there was an issue (cannot duplicate bs). Finally the center support on the driveshaft broke and they had to acknowledge there was an issue. Long story short, they changed the driveshaft for free, made vibration worse, bye-bye GT.

Now I understand the game and there will be issues, however the response that I have always received from GM has been great. If there is an issue they fix it, period. I still like the Shelby and will one day own one, but I would definitely rather have the ZL1 after this experience. There are also things that the SS are just better at than the GT.

Things I like better about the SS were recorded as complaints in some reviews for example low visibility. I like the feel of the SS over the GT. The SS is like a bunker and the chopped top look that follows this design gives the car a more aggressive look and better stance. Truly feels like a sports car and not a sedan. Then some complained that the suspension was too good, one review even said that it felt like the Cadillac. I totally disagree and love the handling on the SS. Chevy has balanced these cars well, its as if they set them up to be either smooth or aggressive when u want. Besides its much better than having a vibration that cant be fixed. Torque...nuff said. TR-6060 is a great transmission but please get rid of 1-4 skip shift. There are many more things I like better, but this thread is long enough. So if your considering the SS or GT, its still obviously a personal choice, but I prefer the SS after owning both.

**P.S. kudos to GM on the new 2020 SS touch up**

eh torque is like a bad marriage. it’s an illusion. it leads you on when you’re 1 on 1, making you feel good about yourself. then you find yourself in competition with honest marriages that don’t project a glossy veneer of power and control only to find out the bottom line of all that torque is you still getting your shit drug by a na 300” motor in a car that weighs more.

or something like that.

but yeah it does create the illusion cars are much stronger than they really are.

I'm a former Mustang driver, and you're spot on about the feel of the Camaro VS the Mustang from my experiences. My SS kicks the ass off the same level Mustang in my little secret windy track out in the phosphate mining part of the county without breathing hard.

Good choice, and I followed suit!

Sorry man, I'm not following this analogy. How is torque a bad marriage with a glossy veneer in a 6th gen Camaro? Are you saying it isn't powerful enough or that it only projects the illusion of power? There is still a ton of torque at 6500 rpm, almost at redline, what made you say the car gives out, do you think it doesn't rev high enough? If yes, why would it have to, where exactly could you reach 180+ mph anyway?... or are you saying it loses too much on too many upshifts because the gearing is too short? I honestly don't see the problem you're describing.

The 1 - 4 thing is the skip-shift that Chevrolet put in to "improve gas mileage".

It is VERY easy to defeat. Try this kit: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/c...t/model/camaro.

Best $21 you'll ever spend on a manual Camaro...

Enjoy the car, I love mine...

i’m simply saying...torque will only delay the inevitable against a higher hp car. in this case it’s the coyote cars. vortec 454s make huge torque but clearly aren’t the engine of choice for performance enthusiasts. the feel of a camaros tip in and low range is strong, but put a coyote car next to it and watch it sail away. yeah it FEELS fast but really..it’s not. ie the illusion.

Congrats on the ride and welcome back, nice to hear your experience with both and good to know, I have no experience with the mustang so I can't comment there cause I've always been a chevy guy.
